[SOLVED] How to set the time so it stays set? Subject description: I set the time, but it is wrong again after a reboot |
|
Although I've tried, I just haven't had much luck in figuring out how to set the time, as displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen. Each time I manage to get it set correctly, upon rebooting it always goes back to the incorrect time. In the PupControl there's the Pysnc Time Syncrhonizer button (Time Update) which allows "sync/update clock with time servers" and that seems to work when I select my region but then after syncing it another box pops up asking whether I want to synchronize my clock at each startup and has two buttons, one of which says Autostart and the other says Remove Autostart. Not sure what to select there, or even if I need to do this time synching procedure to simply set the time. Seems when I select Autostart, that makes the Startmount app start at startup, which don't want/need.
In PupControl console I have the Country settings set to my zone/region, but there's also a box to check whether or not to "use UTC hardware clock". ??
Also, in PupControl is the set Time/Date tool which I can set also but which presents the hours dates and seconds in 24-hour time format and I wish I knew how to set that to regular time format. And even when I do set that to the correct time, as I described upon reboot it reverts back to the incorrect time again.
Perhaps I'm overcomplicating this, but I'm very unclear on how to simply set the correct time once and for all, so that it shows the correct time each time I boot up and doesn't change back to anything else, ever.
If anyone can help that would be great. I'd think there might be a beginners puppy tutorial for this but I couldn't seem to find such. If there is one I'd like to know about that too. Thanks.

Sgull- I suggest you install the instant update pet described here unless you've already done so. For good measure- reboot..
Then in /root clk the eye up top'n rt-clk, "open as text" your .jwmrc-tray file- swap whatever's there with this bolded entry:
<Clock format="%l:%M %p">PupClockset</Clock>

thanks for reply.
It seems I've I'd had success now. I needed to sync the time server with this region and set it to auto-run at startup. Before, I set it to auto-run at startup and would always get the Startmount spash screen at startup so I would turn the auto-run at startup back off. Now that I understand I can set Startmount to run in quiet mode at startup, I can leave the time server thing on to sync with time in this region each startup, so I have the correct time now, all the time.
