I was wondering how I can compile a real-time kernel for puppy, could this even be done. Does anyone know if Studio pup used one. I would like to build one using the new Saluki pup. click here

I have found some old posts on this click here and click here, but not much current talk.

what i assume would be needed is
  1. a puppy base
  2. a real-time Linux kernel source
  3. devx in the puppy and compile it.
So would it be the same process for slacko, wary, racy or any other puppy. or would it be different slightly.
Note: I have no experience building, or messing with a kernel. I might be totally wrong about the build process above.

If anybody in the, frendly and helpful, puppy linux community can help it would be appreciated.

For linux there is a RealTime kernel patch, however many of the improvements to the kernel have been merged into the mainstream kernel.

Therefore patching may be unnecessary.

there was an update last year-

there's a on real time goodness here-

A real-time kernel is beneficial when running apps for recording music, graphics, photo editing etc as far as i know. Saluki already has an easy way to add a pae kernel, and any others when written.

ok still its not a real-time kernel is it. I would prefer to have one of them if it is at all possible. Thinking about it Studio pup I believe might have had a real-time kernel.

Yes, Saluki is built from woof. It is based on Racy, meaning that during the woof process, some of the same base apps used to build Racy (with woof) were also used to build Saluki.

Building a real-time kernel is a difficult task, beyond my current skill-level.
