@Flash bring attention to a technology offering that has promise, in that, it might be an upgrade for many older PCs to something consistent.

Has anyone in our community actually tried this? <=== Credit goes to @Flash for bringing this to our attention.

There are two parts to this. The first is the open-source BIOS replacement, the second is its installation software, which can be run from a live CD. I'm thinking Puppy would make an ideal platform. Smile

First, I never read all its feaures.
But let us just say that I have an older PC that does not have a boot order option and does not support booting from CD or a USB device.
Would this give the PC that option?
Also, some BIOS in laptops have options specific to the laptop.
Would those be preserved?
I would hate to flash a BIOS and have the resulting BIOS make the PC unoprative.
I would hope that their software included the option to make a backup of the existing BIOS just in case one wanted to revert to the original.

It sounds like using this open source BIOS would not be for the faint of heart.
Also, is the source for it available to check it for the tin foil hat types?

Wow thanks indeed that is good news if it works.
But it is rather risky if it fails then the computer is dead
and can not do anything? Or what?
