These are questions for understanding how best to mke use of the Custom Builder.
  1. Is there a log of what the custom builder does?
  2. Does the custom builder have a configuration file?
  3. Should the custom builder abort (accidental or by user action), can the custom builder restart where it last checkpoint'ed?
  4. Is there a plan or has there been any thoughts about a single screen that can start custom builder in such a way as its a wee-bit more apparent where it going to take us?
Here to help

NVidia driver got success at the second try

#2482 Post by shinobar »

EDIT: I don't know why, but got success at the second try.

Tried to compile the NVidia-295.33 driver on Saluki-18 but not succeed.
Compiling the kernel module is finished, but failed to load. Got dmesg:

Code: Select all

nvidia: disagrees about version of symbol module_layout
I used packages:
4181661dd2c81993a94555f52e3b5036 devx_luki_015.sfs
a672e9046ea2bb07691eaa0abc47bc67 kernel_sources-3.2.8-ski.sfs

Whereas the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-295.33.run got success with the recent kernels of pemasu:
Dpup Exprimo with kernel 2.6.39, 3.1.10-dpup or 3.2.11-dpup

Package nvidia-295.20-kernel-3.2.8-saluki.pet does not work on the 018 Saluki?
I works great. Or is it a sports interest?

Great Idea making a Nvidia driver as an SFS. Can anyone make a ATi SFS ?

Regards Einar

Driver version 295.33 is deprecated due to a high-risk security vulnerability: NVIDIA 295.40 Closes High-Risk Security Flaw

from NVIDIA's release notes for NVIDIA 295.40: "Closed a security vulnerability which made it possible for attackers to reconfigure GPUs to gain access to arbitrary system memory."

xorgwizard

#2489 Post by shinobar »

BTW, the xorgwizard on Saluki-18 does not run from the desktop (need to down to console and type 'xorgwizard').

@jemimah
Need to remove or comment out the DISTRO_XORG_AUTO at the first stage of /root/Startup/firstrun.
See the firstrun-2.0.9. Anyway, I will upload v2.1 soon.

Just encase anybody did not know the http://puppylinux.org/wikka/Saluki website is down.

"This account has been suspended

This of course has no effect on the repository http://www.smokey01.com/saluki/pet_packages-saluki/ .

If not then willing to give it a go but my code / compiling experience is very limited - but keen to learn

Have plenty of experience coding in other languages just never made anything for puppy yet

D
No one's mentioned it yet. I think the wacom driver is there already. I'm not sure what else you would need. There's a command "xsetwacom" that might come in useful.

A realtime kernel is going to be fairly difficult. There's probably only a few people on the forum that could pull it off.
I may decide to work on it after the release unless pemasu takes an interest.
Probably not. I am more or less interested in testing and compinling for puppy the stock kernel.org kernels. With my testing cycle...patching individual kernel is not priority for me. And I dont need micro - nanoseconds latency fixes. I leave them to the musicians. I just listen music...in this life.

Go for it Jemimah so that your brain cells and synapsies have something stimulating to do... :D
unless realtime is somehow connected to ARM i see this as too expensive for puppys limited resources. especially since announcer already has cracked it all be it at a price. too limited market. while channeling resources to ARM port meets with an abundant future and much wider audience. just my 2cents.

To move or resize the conky widgets you'll need to edit the config files, which can be found /root/.conky.

Conky switcher 02 is uploaded to the repo by the way, with new themes.

Your configuration file is the pets you select. Just choose the same build location every time you run it and they will be saved.

Saluki 18 Clean boot

I noticed two bits of outdated info on the saveconfig.

See pictures: both show saving as 2fs instead of 4fs.
