USB drive - SAVE FILE - unable to save to hdd partition

Hello, I have downloaded and burned to cd(s) Wary, Lupu, and Slacko. They all work on my compaq laptop from the cd/dvd drive. The laptop has Wxp installed on primary and extended partitions. However, when I use Bootflash or Universal Installer, upon First Shutdown, there is no option to save to the hdd disc partitions. I only receive the option to save to the USB Flash drive. I wish to save to a hdd partition. I have tried to copy and then rename a save file from the usb flash drive to a hdd partition, but at boot, the boot sequence does not find the file. When I use a similar process for the cd versions, they do find the save files on the hdd. M |

When you install to a USB flash drive. This is by design to put the save file on the USB flash drive. Live CD gives you more options for where to save. You can still put stuff on the hard drive for storage. Like documents, videos, pictures, downloads, etc.... _________________ I have found, in trying to help people, that the things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem. Hello bigpup, Thank you for the explanation. Why wouldn't the save files created with the live cd be seen by the USB Flash at bootup? M |

By design, USB flash drive installs of Puppy, only look on the USB flash drive for files at bootup. USB flash drive installs work differently from live CD or hard drive installs. Handle memory usage, read/write, and when to save, in a different way, to improve life span of flash drive. _________________ I have found, in trying to help people, that the things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem. Might it be possible to tell the Puppy that its pupsave is held on an "ataflash"? I do that by including in the setting pmedia=ataflash within the isolinux.cfg file in the ISO used to make the "live" CD. The pupsave on the internal HDD is then treated as though a pupsave on a Flash Drive. |

I'm sorry to resurrect an old thread but my question is pretty much the same thing? I'm wondering if there is a way to make the USB drive act like a live CD to find my save file located in sdb2 (an NTFS filesystem drive).. I've tried switching between pmedia=ataflash, atahd, satahd in the syslinux.cfg on my USB drive. Maybe I have to specify it's in sdb2 somehow? Is it a problem that I have pfix=copy? Any help would be appreciated!
