Won't boot on DELL Dimension 2400 Subject description: bug report |
|
Tried to install Puppy on two different machines. Got latest release from On-Disk.com since I have download limits to worry about.
First machine was DELL Dimension 2400
Celeron 2.4Ghz
512MB RAM
300G HD
Puppy hung with a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen without displaying anything.
The old AMD box with 2G of RAM booted perfectly.
Is 512MB less than the minimum amount of RAM for Puppy? Linux Mint booted and installed just fine...slow, but fine.

Try booting with "puppy pfix=nox".
Then run: "xorgwizard".

Maybe the CD-ROM drive doesn't work. Do you have some other bootable disks you could try?
Try booting with "puppy pfix=nox". |
Wary or Racy?
The integrated video could be a problem, if Racy is used.

The minimum ram requirement for Puppy is 256MB.
What version of Puppy are you trying to use?
To add to what rcrsn51 said.
Boot with the Puppy Live CD.
At the boot screen hit F2.
Add the command puppy pfix=nox
This will get you to a prompt.
Type xorgwizard at the prompt.
Select the vesa driver.
set resolution.
run test to see if it works.
finish xorgwizard.
back at prompt.
Type xwin
should see desktop.
What happens?
