Slacko won't shut down |
|
Alright, running slacko 531 I have a strange problem. When I install my video driver (catalyst 11.8 for Radeon HD5450) it will no longer shut down. Instead, when it finishes saving, it restarts X.
Now, if I read the scripts correctly, the Xwin script is indeed supposed to run, but it is supposed to find something the wmpoweroff(I think) script left behind which tells it to shutdown instead. Of course, I may be miles off. Either way, I don't know what to do with it. Any help?
My eventual goal is to press the power button and have it immediately shut down without saving. I tweaked the acpi script so it shuts down immediately, and found the pupsaveconfig thing that lets me keep it from saving, but it still leaves me with this issue.

Hello.
I've explained this elsewhere for racy 5.22, which also has the bug, but I'm too tired to search the reference in the forum. It's a "soft sledgehammer" kind of solution. Very inelegant, but it works.
The trick is to let the puppy save the pup_save file and cycle back to the desktop. (We do need to save the work we did during our session, don't we?) Then we do:
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
which brings us back to the initial black console.
Then, in this console, we type
busybox reboot
OR
busybox poweroff
depending on what we want to do next.
I hope this helps.

Almost forgot: be sure to report this prob to the author/programmer of slacko, 01micko. He's a whiz, he should be able to fix this in no time.
BFN.

Ah,..a coincidence,...musher0,..
I just now came to the kennels tonight to look up your sledgehammer solution that you posted the other day. And here I found it posted again.
I tried different Puppies on my old HP Pavilion laptop,...but it seems that only Racy really worked the best (except for the "no re-boot" and "no-shutdown" problem).
So, musher0,..until someone comes up with a better solution,..I'm trying your sledgehammer approach.
Like the OP,..my laptop also has the Radeon video (maybe Slacko and Racy's shutdown problem might be related to this?) (?)
EDIT: egads!!! Just tried it,....and it still won't shut down. (stubborn Puppy).

Maybe try a real sledgehammer. (there's no smiley for tongue-in-cheek, sorry).
