Puppy Package Manager failed to install package Subject description: what should i do? |
|
Hi
I have puppy linux lupu 5.2.8 Lucid on an intel pentium 4 processor(2.0GHz) and 512 MB of ram........I have downloaded an deb package of avast antivirus for linux, When i press on the package the PPM tells me to confirm the install.
So far so good.....but when i wait for it to install an message appears tells me that the puppy package manager failed to install it.
I tried once by downloading Kwrite deb, the install works fine but the program needs some libraries for it.
So, What should i do? Is there an other way to install it? or to know what's wrong?
Thanks in advance
M.H.

I've experienced similar errors in the past, with other packages.
It's usually because there's something wrong with the package.
See if you can locate another one like it elsewhere.
(maybe here)
You might have better luck.

BDX- for your VPS error, update the database file in avastgui.
Can't update? Download manually to your ~/.avast folder.

PS- It may ask repeatedly for your key.. in which case you:
| Code: | | geany ~/.avast/avastrc |
and enter your license like so, then save'n close:

I see now.. for this error delete your ~/.avast directory and retry- she'll go..
Oh'n, stick with the pet.. it'll provide a convenient menu entry in utilities.

BDX,
- Go into pacman and remove one, or both if there- Avast pkgs.
- Download'n extract my script to your /root directory.
- Open a shell'n keep it open- issue:
Install the pet.
From the open shell:
Be patient (51.5mb's)- the gui'll open when it's finished.
If it doesn't, you'll still get a confirmation.
Open from a shell with: avastgui or from the menu under utility.
If your key doesn't work- register for a new one'n rerun these instructs.
Post back'n tell me what I wanna hear..

Great! If you ever encounter this again:
| Code: | # ./avast_remove.sh
sh: ./avast_remove.sh: Permission denied |
Check that root's the owner (ls -l), then rt-clk the file in question:
File >> permissions >> yes! Green'll tell ya it's executable..
