The speakers are recognized, but the microphone not.
Does not record souns, skipe does not speak.
I try different set up.
My PC is an asus 1215p
thse sound card is Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller
In mswindows the microphone works.
in puppy not.
Usually I use macpup528, but I Have in multi boot also puppy528 and saluki.
I see that the internal microphone is not propery recognized in all of them.
Basically I would like to use the mike for skipe.
Any suggestion?

If it works in windows it should also work in Puppy. The mixer volume controls look different that is all. Make sure you have all the controls visible. Sometimes some can be hidden (including the one that you need). Precord is very useful for this because you can open the sound input window (it is like a rolling display) and this will show you when the mic is feeding sound into the system. You don't need to record anything.

EDIT: just seen this recent post which has a sound input meter .pet which you can install.

As I see, there is no togle button for the mike, in the alsa conf windows. Maybe this is a problem. Tested in a clean puppy528 ram boot, in other puppyes I face same problem.
I did not pay attencion to thath beafoare.
Any suggestion?

You may not need a toggle button because if the volume is fully down you are muted anyway.
Make sure any microphone controls are set fully to the right (all yellow) so that they are on maximum.
Also I am not sure if you have all controls showing there. Usually there are more than that.
Right click the volume icon in the tray and make sure you click "Full Window".
That window is Retrovol, not Alsa Mixer. Might be worth looking in Alsa Mixer (Multimedia Menu) to see if there is a control in that which doesn't show up in Retrovol.

One other thought, if your main soundcard has a microphone input jack socket the internal microphone may show up as a different device or soundcard. Alsa Mixer has options (F6 key) to look through the detected devices. You may need to use arrow keys on the keyboard rather than the mouse to navigate and control settings in Alsa Mixer.

No mike workinig yet.
I run alsamixer from console, expose all the controll F5, select sound card (ptinon - default 0 Intel) but is the same. non responding.
As I see , alsa mixer mention in the title the name af the audio device -Realtek ALC259 .
I also plug an axtenal mike for testing.
I did a google search;
some linux users has this problem
www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-hardware-18/realtek-alc259-mic-headphone-switch-problem-870904/
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=259791
Is not clear to me if I can use suggestions for other distro.
and also found in this forum, someboady solve it muving to Dpup .
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=581965&sid=1619dedc9909c05adf6147bc27b0e486

Yet I will appreciate a suggestion to let it work on macpup.

I am surprised if you can't get an external mic to work either.

Make sure you are looking at the controls for "Capture" (F4 key in Alsa Mixer) and not "Playback".

In fact using the internal mic for Skype calling is not the best way, especially if you are using the speakers to listen. The other person will probably get an echo. Using headphones is much better than speakers and you can try a headset with microphone or a separate external desk mic.

Have you checked the Sound Devices settings in the Options menu of Skype? Worth looking to see what the options in the drop-down list are.

If you have a preamplifier you can feed audio in via the line-in jack.

I still think this problem is because you haven't found the right combination of settings. Lots of people have this difficulty I know.

partially solved.
I test the mike on different puppyes.
on racy it works.
other puppies make white noise, when I turn up the volume of the "capture" control,
on racy puppy, it does turn on the mike properly.
I thing now that the problem of this sound card, is that on normal puppyes the driver or the kernel does not support well.

Just something I had to do to my 900 EEEPC mic to get it to work in Macpup

http://hardkap.net/forums/topic/macpup-foxy-3-asus-eee-900-full-install-skype

My AntiX 11 Debian Wheezy mic fix

Your mileage may vary though.

firak, you might also want to try Upup Precise 5332 (testing) and Sulu (superLupu) both have 3.x kernels.
