Can't play video on some sites Subject description: Lucid 528 with Firefox 12 |
|
Hello,
I can play videos on some sites, but not on others. For example,
Can play; youtube, MLB.com
Cant play; tudou.com, espn.com
I don't know enough about Puppy to figure out why this is so. If there is a codec package I need to install, I'd appreciate it if somebody could point me to the right direction. I am using Lucid Puppy 5.2.8. Thank you in advance.

espn.com worked OK for me.
May not have the latest Flash Player installed.
Look in menu->Internet->
May already have this program "Getflash install flash player"
If so, run it and it will download and install the latest Flash Player.
If not already installed you can get it here:
Getflash
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74491
(make sure to download the 0.9 version)
After installing Getflash.
Run from menu->Internet->Getflash install flash player

Thank you Bigpup for the reply,
I have followed your instruction and installed the latest version, yet I'm still unable to play videos on Espn and Tudou.com
I have tried it on Ubuntu on my desktop (using Puppy for laptop) and seems to have no problem.
Is there anything that I'm missing?
I am using Firefox 12.
Thank you.

Just tested the two sites tudou.com and espn.com and they both play for me here. I am on Lucid 5.2.8-005 but using SeaMonkey browser 2.8 from Puppy Package Manager. I think it is just using the embedded Flash player so I am not aware of any need to install extra codecs or even if it is possible to do that. Could be a problem with the Firefox 12. I also have the old Firefox 3.6.13 installed in this Puppy so will try that.

Thank you for your reply OscarTalks,
If those sites work for both you and bigpup, maybe the issue is not caused by lack of certain codes. I disabled all my addons for Firefox, but still can't play the videos.
I will try tweeking my settings to see if I can find a solution. Any other advice will be appreciated.

Semme,
After making changes to the Flash setting and Firefox privacy settings, I am able to get things to work.
Thank you Semme for leading me in the right direction and others for offering assistance.

Good. Getting things to work is usually easier if you've been in the same boat.
