Teamviewer.
I requested it on page 1.
We have a few versions.
Try Sidder's version.

I use VNC for local control, IE: I control my office PCs from my laptop - but that is on LAN.
I would look at Teamviewer for WAN, especially with a non expert at the other end.

Rdesktop is the classic remote desktop program. Slacko is based on Slackware so you can
borrow that program from official repository:
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/slackware/slackware-13.37/slackware/xap/rdesktop-1.6.0-i486-2.txz

I have been fighting the same battle with rdesktop. I have a desktop with Windows XP and use an old ThinkPad T22 with Puppy 5.3.1 to access the desktop. What I found was that Windows XP (Home Edition) does not support remote desktop. You must have XP Professional. Apparently there are ways to trick Home Edition into thinking it is Professional - but that was beyond my skill set.
I use TightVNC and it works fine. It is free and easy to setup on both machines. The only problem I've had so far is trying to scale the PC screen to match the desktop. I finally went into the desktop video card and changed the resolution. Works fine. I'm not sure how this setup will work for gaming. Probably a little slow.
