Is there possibly some other driver that needs to be blacklisted in the boot manager so that it doesn't clash with your new one?

hi shevan

it seems to patch succesfully, although there's a few lines after doing ./make.sh
Code:
./make.sh : line 390: [ : too many arguments
./make.sh : line 396: [ : too many arguments

still it finishes patching and aticonfig --initial seems to work

x just won't start after choosing the fglrx driver, even after rebooting

just for sure, did you install compiled module to the sys folder with command ./make_install.sh?

atach xorg.log here

Hi there

Can someone tell me which kernel the latest iso is using ie *.021?

See:

http://linuxwave.blogspot.co.uk/2007/05/how-to-check-your-kernel-version.html

Are there instructions somewhere on
  1. how setup to boot alternate kernels at boot-time?
  2. I am wondering whether GRUB4DOS is needed or is CustomBuilder required?
  3. And, if one provided multiple kernels to the builder, would it build a boot-manager with the smarts to select which to use at boot-time?
Thanks in advance

hi shevan

it is the latest driver that i'm using. and i've tried selecting fglrx through xorwizard, that's my result in the xorg.0.log above. x doesn't start.

i'm a little hesitant to try load x without xorg.conf, as i've already done too many hard 'power-offs' on my new comp Sad ... but then again it may be worth a try.. so how do you load x without xorg.conf?

cheers

666philb. You could try manual loading:
#modprobe -r dri radeon
#modprobe fglrx
#aticonfig --initial --input=/etc/X11/xorg.conf

Yes...modprobe -r just unloads possible conflicting modules. modprobe -r radeon is the more conflicting one.

You cant have kernel module radeon loaded ....when you load fglrx kernel module.
