I think jobo was talking about version 2.16. This is actually an old version unlike the others mentioned which have old guts but are updated frequently. The problem with 2.16 or other real old versions is that they are harder to update software. In a few cases when other options fail it might be worth trying. But try our other suggestions first.
Wary
2.14x classic
Akita
Lucid retro.
All of these are aimed to run well on old machines but offer modern software

Without recent software updates, puppyluvr's "Buddapup-Dingo" might be an option too for that sort of hardware - provided you don't use animated backgrounds in E-17...

+1 for Akita though Smile

sfeeley,

Is the preferred trial order is from Top-down ? That is from Wary to Lucid retro.
Also, can you post the download link for the most updated version of Lucid retro ?

Thanks

any of them really, they will all be average on that machine, but as ive tried to explain above, your resticted to 128 ram and those programes will all run at close to a 100 mb just to be there, leaving you with a miserly 28mb of ram to run/ down load web pages

to put that in perspective, im running retro, its as fast as a cheap modern net book on web pages like this one, but if you try to access i heavy coloured pages or ones with photo, its like treacle

at this very moment im using a version 1 puppy, which only uses 60mb to run, the 60 thats left means that the internet function is as fast as a brand new windows 7 machine, as fast as you can blink the page is open no matter whats on it, BUT you cant get many, if any add ons for it and if you can get them installing is a major hassel, so its just an internet browsing machine and nothing more

you can componsate for the lack of ram, by setting up a swap partition to act as addition ram, but that is still slower than real ram, if you want to make this easy on yourself, up grade the ram on that computer to 250 and all of those will run like lighting, if not, youl have to make trade offs of speed against functions, but dont forget you can easily have 3 or 4 doiferent versions installed and ppick the one you like or the one thats best suited to the task you wont to do at that moment

my project at the moment, with a lot of help from semme, is to get retro running as fast as possible on 125 ram, we have made good stides but still away to go yet
