Guys,
Is Puppy an education?
For me it is.
I know for some of us school was a bad program
So when I talk about education I mean, getting to know stuff . . .
I have nerd tendencies I read encyclopedias and dictionaries
(don't pretend you do not visit wikipedia - the rise of the nerds . . .
now mainstream)
Anyway MOOC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massive_open_online_course
I am thinking of offering a couple of courses:
One on Mysticism, that may be free, maybe not
I also may do a paid course on Puppy
It would probably be $10 - if I get any interest in a paid course
Otherwise time can be spent on wiki
This is the system I would use
http://www.udemy.com/
Working on the lectures for the Mysticism course:
Introducing Mysticism: Another way of being?
Forms of meditation: Preparatory modes of stillness
Journals: Feedback and reflection
Practices: Dancing, singing, journeying, poetry, martial arts etc
Paths: Religion to humanism
Integration: Experiences, delusions and reality
The Future of Mysticism
What course would you do or offer?
MOOC

I have decided that a Puppy Course
at http://www.udemy.com/ would be a good idea.
It will be $50 but free to our amazing developers.
It would be great if I can support a server
(my last one at tmxxine.com went down through lack of sardine cans)
A top priority is offering payment to people like Micko
and Pemasu (if required). Really they can not be paid
for what they do but an occasional donation could pay for
a beer and pizza perhaps . . .
Thanks to coolpup and darkcity - the course will be free to you guys - we have an up to date wiki. I will be using the wiki as a major resource.
I will also be offering the course free to Nooby as he asks more questions . . .
OK let me get a quick curriculum off the top of my head.
How does this sound:
- Getting Puppy and running it on your hardware
Installing from Windows. Downloading and installing.
From Multi-session to dual booting.
Have your Windows system untouched and Puppy on the same setup
- Puppy Setup and Basics
Control panels and setup
- Puppy Software
Word processing, graphics, etc
- Puppy Extra Treats
SFS, Pets, Package managers
- Getting Help, knowledge and feedback
I will be sending out free invites shortly.
For now I have 5 free invites to anyone sending me a PM requesting the course.
OK better start planning my course curriculum more fully.
I will be basing this on Slacko 5.3.3
and may update to a Upup or a Long Term Support version
in the future.

Thanks Noobnooby wrote:Don't get me wrong now. The following is no criticism
I am just curious on if you know enough to get payed
for doing courses on Puppy. Just a typical Q from the Noob
Do I know enough? No. We never know enough.
Do I know sufficient? Can I convey it?
Yes. I have been paid for teaching in the past.
Teaching well (rather than quickly) through the net will be more of a challenge.
The resources of smokeys Manual and other pages here
http://puppylinux.org/main/Manual-English.htm are done to a more professional standard. Such results takes care and attention and more time than I usually give Puppy projects. Resources need constant attention and updating. A professional course which can be made free for earlier version perhaps, is a methodology I want to try.
Here is an out take from my first ever
test tutorial using Puppy 4.3, a hand held phone and a pair of missing glasses (on the end of my nose)
http://youtu.be/02ROgCZ9C4Y
I am going to have to be more professional
and redo some of those early vids. This will mean running and recording from Qemu or some similar method
http://youtu.be/02ROgCZ9C4Y
I call a sfs file a 'Save file' - wrong! However when you are typing holding a phone and speaking at the same time and do it all in one take . . .
What will be interesting is having a method of question and answer feedback . . .
So I will look into that . . .
The Udemy system offers a great range of tools.
As for being a student . . . Do you think you would learn more by paying?
I think it only fair I offer you a refund.
Then you can ensure you are getting value for money and ask all the right questions.
Hope that makes sense.
Re: MOOC
Yes and no. Yes, I'm getting used to a different philosophy to using and understanding a computer and an OS. Linux based puppy system.Lobster wrote:Guys,

No. I don't totally get to solve all my issues, so my questions stay where they are so far ;(
The board has helped me get many stuff and reading, but when you break things down and you don't fully understand the inner workins of the OS, you don't know how to fix it (eg, improper deletion of icons brings up msgs on the command prompt and during boot up, aesthethics (sp) really, since the OS and the tools you regularly use do work, but annoying you broke something that isn't supposed to be broken. Also, how to compile on a fixed image when you have missing dependencies or if the compiling tools weren't complete as in, the devs forgot to add one or two files (headers)) in that sense, no, one is sort of stuck and unable to get things to fix or help fix oneself, the board (more users) and the developers (bigger user base, more people to help, etc). In anycase, those are challenges to overcome...
Nice, had my mistic phase but now more into exisencialism, but empowering one. I only have myself to support me, and family is about feelings, but financially and emotionally I'm my own man into the universe so is my duty to find solutions for my current reality and in the future my family. Work, studies, centered on goals. Actually, I'm no PHD yet to give a course of anything. Maybe physics, but that's what I do for a living, oh and selling (liner).Lobster wrote:Working on the lectures for the Mysticism course:

One of our Puppys is a grizzly biker. He was able to offer me tuition recently about another distro. If I wanted advice and a course on servicing Harley Davidsons, I would know whose course I would prefer . . .I'm no PHD yet to give a course of anything. Maybe physics
Practically everything I know about time travel comes from watching Dr Who.
Unlike Dr Who I do partially exist in this dimension (my psychiatric team have been notified)
http://tmxxine.tumblr.com/post/14010725566/insert
. . . gosh must do a blog post for that soon . . .
I may do a course on Time Travel too.
I am insane enough to attempt that . . .
Why shouldn't you create a course in Physics?
It is the ability to convey ideas.
In fact how would you like to do a joint course on time travel?
