Where did you find it in the control panel? I looked at everything in the desktop section with no joy. Even upgraded to 022 ... still no joy. KJ

screenshots as jpg?

#3242 Post by Dromeno »

Tiny detail: the screenshot manager only saves as png. In most cases a (smaller) jpg is good enough.

The 1101HA does not have a proper video driver for linux - that it works at all surprises me.

WM switcher

#3246 Post by KJ »

Dromeno .... Thanks for the screen shot .... that explains a lot as none of the JWM or ICEwm (except config.) items show anywhere in my control panel. I upgraded my save-file from 019 thru 022 and this morning I have ICEwm menus showing up in both ICEwm and XFCE4. Bad save-file I guess.

Time to start fresh ... but hope to wait for 023.

Thanks again to both Jemimah (for Saluki work + screenshot) and Dromeno (for the screenshot). KJ

Just a reminder if possible - I would love to see a "shutdown without modifying savefile" option added if possible. Or is there already some function to enable this that I have missed?

I have just realised I can achieve something similar by going into the control panel and configuring the pupsave configurator and setting the save time to zero. This means that the shutdown dialog does not do an automatic save and instead gives me a choice of "save" or "do not save".

This is really handy because it allows me to have a basic pupsave with all my finetuned setup, but I don't have to wait for it to be modified during every shutdown process. If I am in a hurry to shutdown I just say "no save" and it saves me a lot of time.

USB installs can be particularly slow to shut down due to the slow write cycles that are usually found in most usb sticks, so this is a way around it.

CUPS network printer in Saluki

#3249 Post by can8v »

Hello all, I have not used Puppy much over the past few years, but decided to see what has been going on in the community lately. I must say that I am glad that I did. I am really liking the Saluki project. I was able to get most things working pretty quickly.
I am however, a little stumped on getting my Brother MFC-J410W to work over the network. I have this working in both on WinSuck and it is also working on my wifes Mac OSX 10.6.
So far I installed the sfs, but the printer was not supported with a driver, so I downloaded the LPR driver and the CUPS wrapper (RPM format) from the Brother website. By simply double clicking the RPMs they installed and I can see the associated PPD file in the /opt/brother/Printers/mfcwj410w/cupswrapper directory. Then I tried adding the printer using the CUPS web interface and it was able to detect the printer and provided the correct IP address using SNMP. I continued the install by selecting the printer and the PPD file that was installed from the RPM. CUPS reported that the printer installed successfully.
When I tried to send a test page nothing happens and I don't even see the print job on the "Jobs" tab of the CUPS web interface. It basically looks like it printed only the printer does nothing.
I apologize if this is beyond the scope of the Saluki thread, If an admin would like to propose a more appropriate thread or move this post, I would be just as happy with that.

Kerry Blue,

Did you try the answers you were given by jrb in the Slacko bug thread to Saluki?
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 999#628999

Remember - his first answer was for Lucid and his second for Slacko. Not sure which, if any, is applicable to Saluki. Maybe Saluki will need xorg.conf to be stuck in another folder.

JRB solution was:
Lucid 5.2.8
copy xorg.conf to /etc/X11/Xsession.d folder

Slacko
copy xorg.conf to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

Saluki
???

Maybe Jemimah could say if I could try something like this and what would be the best option to try?

AdobeAIR lita, SQLite Administration Tool, http://www.dehats.com/drupal/?q=node/58
This requires the Gnome-Keyring from HERE to function with XFCE, the keyring will need to be run,
create a symlink in the Startup Dir, run this code in the terminal and restartX,

Code: Select all

ln -s /usr/local/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon /root/Startup
when lita is run a keyring popup will ask for a passwork to be made,
create a password don't forget it, you will need to enter the password everytime a app that requires the keyring is run, once per session.
Yes I know having to enter a password is a pain, :(

OK Geoffrey - I'm getting fed up now.

I come to this thread to find out about Saluki progress not to see endless lists of Adobe Air apps - which is all we have had since yesterday.

Do they only work with Saluki?

Please think about putting them in a separate thread.

ICPUG, thanks for the comment, yes they are for Saluki that's why they are here, some will work in other pups,
but most need real transparency, there is no point putting them anywhere else as they need testing,
so far no complaints until now, how can you be fed-up with getting more software for saluki.

Here's another one.

AdobeAir CrazyCam3, this is a good one if you have a working webcam, http://kellerfrau.blogspot.com.au/2009/ ... 08-20.html
Images are saved in a folder on the Desktop called crazycam.
