I was messing about today and found an old Bielkin Digital video device that connects between video camera and a USB port
So I had another video camera also and connected both up.
Using the suggestion above I got a green screen up with something obviously going on but I cannot tell what
I want to change whats being received by mplayer to PAL , how do I do that?
See screenshot for clearer view of what happened and the terminal output at the time
Edit I read a little and tried adding in "norm=5" to the start command but I didn't get that right and the second shot shows that.

I have no idea if your cams would be compatible with guvcview, but if it helps I posted my way of getting guvcview going here:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=75203
guvcview allows you to take a snapshot as well as record video.
