FATAL: module printer not found

#1 Post by Eastern Counties »

I'm moving up to Puppy 2.02 from 1.07 (which I was very happy with). When I start up, one of the last messages that flashes across the screen is:

FATAL: module printer not found

I have a USB printer and it is recognised when I run dmesg, but when I type modprobe printer, I get the same 'fatal' message as on startup.

I have noticed that with Puppy1.07, there is a file called printer.o.gz in /lib/modules/2.4.29/usb, but there is not an equivalent one in 2.02. I've looked in all-modules-k2.6.16.7-PUP202.tar.gz, but couldn't see anything related to a printer.

I have installed the newer version of CUPS and TurboPrint in my Puppy 2.02 as this was the only way I could get my Canon i250 printer to work in Puppy 1.07.

Anybody got any idea what I should do next?

Thanks
John

The newer puppy 2.xx doesn't use module printer, but uses module usblp for usb printing.

The newer cups installer by Pakt, in Announcements, modprobes this new module in automatically, adding it to /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

Thanks for that, Kal.

In fact I had used Pakt's newer CUPS installer, but after using Rarsa's earlier one.

I'll check my /etc/rc.d/rc.local and edit it accordingly.
