Good grief Connor! When did you quit using Puppy for Mac anyway? LOL!! Wink

Now that's the ideal "Mac-look" my fellow Puppian friend! Take that screenshot and post it over in "Additional Software>Eye-Candy>My Puppy Is More Gorgeous Than Yours!" as indeed it is! Smile

Great job!

EDIT #1: BTW Connor, if you'd like to change the base IceWM icon theme, you could make your own. You'll find that there are themes by which to go located in "/usr/local/lib/X11/themes/"... open up any one of those themes in ROX and then you can use a couple of other ROX windows to drag the appropriate icons over from the Mac4Lin icon folders ( maybe naming the folder "PuppyMac"? ). These icons MUST be named the exact same as you see in your sample theme folder as well as the exact same sizes - e.q. 24 = 24 and 48 = 48, etc. When finished drag your "PuppyMac" icon set over into the theme folder and then go into "Menu>Desktop>Desktop Settings>Desktop Icon Switcher" and select your "PuppyMac". I can't recall whether or not you'll need to restart X, but you should see the base icon set changed when you open any menu in Puppy that requires graphical icons ( IceWM, JWM, XFCE, others... ).

I hope this small concise tut helped?

Cheers for the comments Eyes-only Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy , i will get working on changing all the icons today and will hopefully have an even more Mac looking computer, will also try and get a picture posted up again, and will post on the my puppy is more gorgeous then yours after doing these icons Very Happy Thanks Again Connor. Very Happy

Edit - Hi Eyes-Only Having some trouble on my wbar icon settings, everytime i add a new icon with the executable at usr/share/applications/gnomeplayer it loads on the bar but when i click nothing happens, do you know why this is. Thanks Connor.

Hey Connor, nice lookin Mac Pup there. When using Wbar the executable has to be in usr/bin or usr/local/bin to work properly. Put the executable in one of those, open ROX, hit button to see hidden files, click on .wbar and scroll down to your app that you're adding and make sure that it is correct.

Hmm... Connor? About the only thing I can suggest is this: Open up the gnomeplayer .desktop file in "/usr/share/applications" and make sure that the "exec" line points to either "/usr/bin/mplayer" or "/usr/bin/gmplayer" - and that the exe really does exist in "/usr/bin".

Also: Go to "/usr/bin" and click on either one of the above mentioned exes ( one is a real exe and the other is a link I believe... I can't remember off the top of my head as I so seldom use gnomeplayer ) to make sure that what you're pointing to does work.

Then in "/root" I believe there's a ".wbar" settings directory or file itself which holds your settings - I believe the latter actually from which the .wbar exe works ( the directory holds a backup of the settings and so forth ). Open that up in any text reader and make sure the exec line in that is pointing to the working gnomeplayer exe held in /usr/bin.

I remember back along in version 4.31 of Puppy they had a very difficult time running gnomeplayer, it was VERY touchy and wouldn't run from the link, nor would it run if there was any trailing commands after the exe line in the .desktop file ( if memory serves me correctly, seldom does tho ) and so forth. I realise you said you're running 5.33, but because of my experience in 4.31 I tend to shy away ever since. Thankfully my multimedia needs aren't much!

I hope this has helped in some small way until someone with far more knowledge in multimedia players comes along?

Cheers/Amicalement,

Hi Eyes-Only Finally got it running using the Usr/bin/mplayer and used the icon vlc as it is very similar, it wont launch anything if the exec is set at usr/share/applications which confused me for a while but thanks to yours and mill0001 help i got it running. Smile i have put a picture up to show my new wbar

The only thing i have left to do now is to change the icewm start menu to replicate the mac start menu by changing the icons to the right (Battery,Wireless etc) Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Sub_title: Very Stunning Mac-Look!

EXCELLENT!! Very Happy Now remember to post some of these in the desktop section of the forum quoted above, okie Connor? These are stunning shots - especially for anyone interested in the "Mac-look"! I dare say you've done an even far better job than I did - and I ran a Mac-styled desktop on my computers for nearly 6 to 7 years. Never did it look this great.

Likewise, that's an excellent look for the wbar. Wow...

You Da Man here! -thumbs up!-

Hi.

Losing the wbar mostly means:

1. You have put an icon to the file /root/.wbar that is not found
2. You did not save the file /root.wbar as /root/.wbarstuff/wbar-backup/wbarvt - both files must have exactly the same content.

Just to give an answer to the topic question, How to get the mac look?:

BUY A MAC!

Lets assume there would be a band called AB/CD that plays the music of AC/DC. What would you buy? The AC/DC cd or the AB/CD cd and covering it with the AC/DC logo?

Greetings,

RSH

Thanks, Will fix the Wbar, i see what your getting at on just buying a Mac, but i dont want to buy a £1000 Mac just for the look of it, i can guarantee if i buy a Mac i probably wont use most of the software that it comes with, which is the reason i want my Linux to look like a Mac, also Linux is more customizable, and by making a Mac look it shows how you can customize puppy to look like anything you want. Very Happy

Also When you go shopping do you purchase all the original expensive brand of food, or do you sometimes pick up an item which is cheaper but will still have a similar taste to the original product.

Dear puppians,

I also have a mac look on my Puppy desktop, and for a good reason. I have a mac mini (ebay - 75 euros), and I want the interfaces to be the same (or, at any rate, similar). As it is easier to modify the puppy icons and themes, that's what I did (I use IceWM). I also use that interface on a netbook. For people with a mac and other computers who want to avoid multiple-interface schizophrenia, it is a good idea, I think. Also, the mac interface is intuitive and pretty attractive.

With kind regards,
vovchik

Exactly vovchik! Plus RSH - it's the challenge of trying to make your interface look/resemble anything you wish it to look like... or so I've found it to be for me anyway as a themer who has made themes in the past for myself and GUI themes for browsers, etc.

Yet as we tend to say in French: "Chacun a son gout!" ( "To each his own [ taste ]." )

@Connor: If you go back to the first page of this thread I believe you'll find a brief tutorial I gave - perhaps in an "EDIT"? - on just how to change the menu icons in IceWM by manufactoring your own "PuppyMac" theme. That is very reasonably easy to do in fact, maybe requiring only 30 minutes of one's time - if even that?

That's likewise very sage advice which RSH made about always making sure to backup your working wbar configuration file to the directory in which he indicated so that should a mishap like this ever happen again you can always replace a non-working file with a working one, refresh ( it's a right-click over the wbar area ), and you should have your working wbar returned to you. It's been quite some time since I've done any work with wbar I'm sorry to say as I normally use bbdock as that serves my purposes just fine and takes up less CPU/RAM.

Whatever, good luck in your endeavours my fellow Puppian friend!

Cheers/Amicalement,
