Just checking if I am getting full performance from my ancient
ATI card. It's got 128? or 250mb? video ram, but I notice a little lag and tearing when moving graphics intensive windows around. Just wondering if it is using the video ram. I used the Xorg High pet.

Anyone been there, done that with all in wonder cards?

I assume, that version of OS is important if the user is not able to build own Xorg with needful drivers.

In -=Quirky Linux - 1.40=- my -=NVidia=- card works good only with use of proprietary driver. But in -=Puppy Lucid - 5.2.8=- my -=NVidia=- card works good with use of free driver.

Could you define "works good" postfs1?

Internet, video, music player is fine with the Radeon, but things start to slow down badly when using music apps intensively, overdubbing, midi etc.
The screen that is, not the cpu. I want to delete windows, but I keep having to go back for stuff that Puppy can't do, but that list is declining Smile

EDIT: Oh, I understand what you mean about the OS, the drivers need to be compiled for the Linux Kernel version, in this case Linux 2.6.37.6

Tried compiling a kernel a while back and it all went pear shaped.
Is there anything ati out there in Puppyland?

To optimize parameters a user must use the characteristics which were declared by the manufacturer. If a user uses only xorgwizard result in Xorg.conf, then this is not the end of work on the video card installation in the OS.

Open a terminal, and type

# glxgears

Let it run for about 30 seconds and post the results

Those glxgears results suggest to me that your accelerated graphics are properly set up. Not sure what else to suggest...

Ok thanks, that glx means nothing to me, since there is nothing to compare it with.
