It may be OK, but since my USB-stick type modem ZTE MF636 wasn't detected, I just turned it off (with the computer's power button). I guess I'll wait for the next version.

I usually don't use Wbar, and I was totally unfamiliar with the Wbar's icons. I think a popup text linked to the buttons would be useful.

Question: Why base it on an upup instead of a dpup?

The shutdown fix works here. Test successful. :)

Speaking of which, I took a crack at making my first sfs file.

I grabbed a handful of .pets and compiled them.

Thanks to smokey01.com for the .pets.

QT-4.8.0
Phonon +deps
gstreamer +deps
opengl
Qtwebkit
Gstreamer-plugins +deps
Focuswriter +deps
Clementine
Qupzilla

It's a huge SFS. I call it QT EXPLOSION!!!

All programs work great.

I'm wondering whether to upload the sfs so others can use it.

Yes, upload it. If the programs seem to be working I'm sure it'll be useful to others too. Good effort.

I've never done that before. What's a good place to upload?

Hello.

I'm just glad to read that the .pet did work. I do not really know why, because all i have done is to make a direct link to the shutdown gui. Normally it goes to a symbolic link and then to the shutdown gui. I'm really just a little bit confused on that..

@gnuxo

i do use mediafire to upload files (except the LazY Puppy files, they are stored at smokey's server). You can upload files up to a size of 200mb and there is no need to register for users to download - but you can not set direct links. You have to use a browser because the links do open a mediafire download page (and sometimes you've been hit by commercials on download.).

@tallboy

yes, to set some popup text would be useful. Unfortunately i would have to do this twice. First for the de-iso, second for the en-iso. We'll see...

as i started to work on LazY Puppy i did not know dpup and the lucid was the only one that could run the applications thta i've had downloaded earlier using the puppy studio (also lucid based) - that's all...

@all

i have inserted a new hd into my home-workstation-pc (taken from another computer) and so i am able to continue the work...

i have made some new html files including new informations on sfs files, the new boot options and further more...

I will put these files together to the Shutdown-fix pet and do a new remaster - i still have to build the WinInstaller files, so it would be not too much work to make a new de-iso and en-iso.

just a few days...

Thanks and Greetings to all

A few things to report.

I'm running the newest build.0.0.2 and before I made my first save file, I switched to Icewm. When I rebooted, Lazypup booted into openbox.

It didn't save my window manager settings.

Another thing is that the resource monitor on the task bar is saying that I'm using 400 megs of ram, and that's before I open any programs.

Htop says I'm only using 80 megs of ram. Though the mouse pointer is working kind of slow and menu and programs are bit slow to respond.

However I believe Htop because it's a reliable program, I know I'm not running 400 megs of ram.

...Anway, about the QT-EXPLOSION.sfs, I decided to wait until the newest Qupzilla comes out and compile that into a QT-EXPLOSION.sfs

I spoke to the developers of Qupzilla and the adblocker has finally been optimized for speed and allows third party subscriptions. It's the feature I and many have waited for, so it wouldn't be right to just settle for an old version now.

WM Manager settings will be saved after first boot into a new created save file. Then change the settings and reboot. At second reboot icewm should be available and run.
Though the mouse pointer is working kind of slow and menu and programs are bit slow to respond.
You can set speed of mouse pointer at menu workstation - desktop settings - pupx (restart x might be needed).

To start programs from sfs needs a bit more time than on installed programs - related to the size of the sfs. Also on loading sfs some checks are done. This is the other side of the coin to be able to run sfs programs just like they would be installed. However: i prefer this sort of use of programs and i like it very much, not only because no other puppy can do it that way.

Thanks for your report.

Yeah, after the second reboot, it seems to have remembered icewm.

Thank you.

My first chance to install LP2.02, and it looks great - fantastic work, Rainer!

I still get the '500 not found' error with the CUPS administrator pages, so I can't install my printer :(

So much to explore... I'll post again after a couple of days normal use.

Yes, the '500 not found' error with the CUPS administrator pages is still "available" - i am sorry for that.

In pemasus's thread i got lots of information on this issue, but unfortunately it was a bit too much of an "expert-info". So, i have still to learn a lot and also i do not understand everything (english reading) at a time.

I hope i will be able to fix this in a future update/release - but for now: it is as is.

Thanks for all your replies.

Greetings to all,

RSH (Rainer)

Hm...

Playing Drums...

...or: why LazY Puppy has happen...

...or: why active develpoment of LazY Puppy has to come to an end...

Playing Drums is my job, my desire, my passion - as a teacher of playing drums as well as a drummer in bands and/or solo-artist. I do like also to play drums while listening to the "big musicans" like Zappa, Rush, Miles, BBKing, Iron Maiden, Blue Öyster Cult, Allan Holdsworth, Billy Cobham, Stanley Clarke, Bill Withers, Tool, CKY, DIO, Rainbow, Chickenfoot, Van Halen, Curtis Mayfield, Colosseum, David Lindley, Gary Moore, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Thin Lizzy, Derek Sherinian, Simon Phillips, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Hooverphonic, Humble Pie, Imelda May, Jack Bruce, Jeff Silvertrust, Brecker Brothers plus more than 500 further musicans and Bands and also to play the drums free from any "leading"-stuff - alone by myself and totally sunken in the drumming-work and its sounds...

The "journey" while programming is not much different to the drumming-journey - but: it misses its physical component. So this could result in nervous up and down movement of a leg...

Playing Drums has been what i've ever searched for until i did explore it for myself at the age of 19 years.

As i did join the forum on 05. September 2011 i did stand in front to have to leave my drumming-room as a result of ugly behavior of a office company that claims to leave the house and all by the office company used rooms, if they could not get into and use my drumming-room for their own purposes.

So, without a job and without a "to-have-something-to-do" during the upcoming days and weeks (now months) i did decide to give some time to one of my several passions/hobbys - which has been then the muppy 08.3f.

Earlier i did work from June of 2007 to April of 2009, six days a week, 8 to 14 hours a day, to compose some new drum-solos to play a solo-concert and to create a dvd including some drum-solos and other artworks and music of me.

This would be something really new to me, because i did play concerts only as a drummer of a band - until then. So i started a whole lot of work (drumming-excesses) to learn to play ostinatos using the six (seven) different pedals of the drum kit by my feet and to play different rhythms and/or melodies using the upper drums and cymbals with my hands. Using a drum including 19 drums and 23 cymbals should make it possible to do things like that.

This concept is called ostinato-solo-drumming and it is created and invented by Terry Bozzio, formerly playing the drums in different Frank Zappa "Ensembles". His drum-kit is surely double-sized - since he has got more than 14 drums alone at the left side of his position behind the drum-kit.

So, from June of 2007 to April of 2009 i did compose ten different drum-solos - six of them did find its place on the dvd (not enough space); i did create the graphics for the dvd cover and the gui and did also program the events and actions if clicking on a link or a bitmap on the dvd gui using a integrated script language of the gui-builder; i did hurt the ring-finder of my left hand while mounting some light onto the walls of the drumming-room, to have enough light to be able to record the drum-solos to video and as a result i could not play drums for about six weeks until three weeks before the concert would happen etc.pp. - short story: each and every little detail -including burning the litescribe dvd's- has been done by myself (except cutting the covers and "building" the needed "nightly-drumming-excess-food", which has been "build" by my Augenstern; she also likes to play drums).

In between Mai of 2009 and September 2011 i did lost my drumming-room twice and once the band did split because of differences in priorities of a band -second short story: i could not trust them (the 2 other musicans of the 3-guy-band, Satriani-Cover) as a result of something happened. Enough, details in the German forum named, but not really necessary in here.

LazY Puppy, started as a "vision" of a puppy linux newbie looks to me now as a really creative result of the work to turn a big bunch of SHIT that can be called Life-Part-Experience-Worthies into something that smells a bit more comfortable than this big bunch of SHIT.

Successfully DONE!

By now, LazY Puppy 2.0.2 Final, Build 0.0.2 seems to be stable and made really fine, there has been offered a new option to get a new drumming-room. We did get the OK and a pre-contract also - so it would just need a few days to get into that room and to setup the drum-kit. Though it will take weeks to have everything connected and ready for a daily use.

And it needs also time to get back my coordinated-independence, my inspiration and ability to play my drum-solos and/or to make unleaded improvisations on the drum-kit.

Interested in creative drumming?
A Drumsolo about 8 minutes length, stored at Mediafire.

My wish would be to have some LazY Puppy specials like SFS P.L.U.S. running in other puppies, but this will not happen (i believe). I can't do this and if another one is willing to do so? Hm, i doubt...

So, i want to say thanks for all the help, to make this outstanding puppy derivative possible and want to wish a lot of fun and success also, while using LazY Puppy.

RSH

For those of you who wants to work on their own version i do attach the complete overview of the LazY Puppy menu categories (the names used for the "Categories="-entry of a .desktop file). It is a htm file, so just remove the .gz.

Ok,

it's done. Contract for the drumming-room is signed and we got the keys as well. It is a nice, clean and dry room, far away from every beer-drinking musician scene, and it has got toilets for women and men and also a little Out house. Amazing...

Meanwhile i have been busy working on my own version of LazY Puppy. The result is a iso sized 149 mb.

All of the bigger applications like aqualung, imagemagick, pwidgets etc. are removed and converted to sfs. JWM is totally removed. IceWM and FbPanel are moved to the StArtLPx2_Extension.sfs. So, the basic LazY Puppy OS has now only openbox (look at screenshot)

All Gtk-, Icon- and Openbox-Themes are moved to StArtLPx2_Extension.sfs as well and also more than 300 icons from /usr/share/pixmaps.

Current Screenshot of LazY Puppy Multimediastudio Pro

At forum thread Utilities there is a simplified version of the LazY Puppy Run-Script-Builder (LP2-SFS-AutoScript) available for the use in other puppies. You need to install sfs_load-1.9.x!

No Download available for LazY Puppy Multimediastudio Pro! This is just an Information - for those who are interested and to let you know, what is still possible on refining LazY Puppy.

but you will be releasing an iso of this studio soon right...?

And thanks for all the work you have put into this puppy. Quite a masterpiece. You made me laugh with your reference to the "nightly-drumming-excess-food". Sounds like there might be a recipe book coming out soon??

Hhmm...

...No.

This Version is especially for my own use and it is also modified in this way. You and every other non-german-language-user will not get happy on this version, because every modifications i've made is only made using German language. Also there are modifications for my own use made, that are unsuitable for other German users as well - so, there will also not be a new German version of LazY Puppy.

If you want to make the LazY Puppy a bit smaller by yourself, i can upload the newly created sfs files, so you can see, what files are to be removed - but i recommend: try to be happy with LazY Puppy as it is.

If there will be any new work on LazY Puppy 2.0.2 Final to publish, this will surely not happen within the year 2012. This is the only promise, i can make.
greengeek wrote:And thanks for all the work you have put into this puppy. Quite a masterpiece.
Yes, i do think too, it is a masterpiece. But it would not be here without help and suggestions from lots of members of this forum. Me one has just been the lucky person, who was allowed to do the work on this "masterpiece" - i do use it every day as my main OS!
greengeek wrote:You made me laugh with your reference to the "nightly-drumming-excess-food". Sounds like there might be a recipe book coming out soon??

That's all usual stuff, so: no recipe book on the way.

---

Report:

The (my private) new iso is sized 126 MB and the StArtLPx2.sfs is now sized 122 MB. It boots on my computer within 14 seconds from finding the StArtLPx2.sfs until the desktop is shown and ready to use.

It is now faster and even smaller as the original lucid 528-4!!!
