Subject description: MultiPup frugal install

After augmenting the personal storage & the swap partition itself I ended up with about 1.7 GB of free space according to the icon's gui in the taskbar but after creating & burning the cd with MultiPup I've only about 750 MB of free space; something big is hanging somewhere & I want to find it to delete it, if possible. After searching with Seamonkey File Finder for anything containing MultiPup I found an above 1 GB file at the location below :

/initrd/mnt/dev_save/general_downloads/compressed-files

I want to know if it's advisable to delete the file there or, possibly others
alongside. I want to recuperate the lost free space.

If you boot the CD with no Save file, then it's the same every time. So you can delete whatever you want and if that borks your Puppy, just reboot.

As to what might have happened to that free space, it's possible that your browser's cache filled it up before you remastered. Which browser were you using?

Thank you for responding Flash!

I wasn't booting from a livecd but from a frugal installation.

Right before starting the MultiPup I cleared the cache, paused the streaming media I was listening to, closed the tab & then closed FF. I also closed any unneeded window that was openned.

I tried to boot the VAIO with the newly burnt cd but since I don't see anything in the external screen until puppy is awaken (the onboard screen isn't working) it wasn't possible. I then tried to boot an HP laptop with the cd but it insist in booting up using PXE.

Now, I'm using the HP but booted up with DSL from a Flash Drive.

Thanks for responding, shinobar!

I must admit that I've never used this before, but it's a good utility for visually inspecting space. I think I'll spend some more time with it in the next few days.

Be aware...

If you ever:
Attempt to copy or move something [files?]...
To a destination filesystem that is NOT MOUNTED...

The Puppy being unable to write to the destination...
Will instead write the thing[s] to the Puppy Linux filesystem inside the pupsave file.

Hence, most likely it will occupy/use lots of space in there! Sad

And you will find that your free space is rapidly/greatly diminished.

In that vein I strongly recommend treesize if you can find it.
