Change Rox default sort from horizont to vertical? [Solved] |

As it is now when I click on a drive or partition or a directory
then Rox show it horizontally and I want it to show vertically.
Sure one can tell it after it already is horizont to change to verstical
but I want to edit a config file so it has vertical by default.
I looked in the manual and did not understand anything of what they wrote
and I looked here http://roscidus.com/desktop/ and did not get that one either.
They say I should look in .config and I found this one
.config/rox.sourceforge.net/Rox-filer/options.xml
so many lines and I have no idea which one and what to do on it.
Edit what about this one
<Option name="display_sort_by">0</Option>
Where can one find out what to put there instead?
I drown in all the text in the manual.
I guess I do a typical noob blackout or something.
How can I edit that file so it is vertical by default?
Edit I found this thread but don't get what they say there.
He wanted to change too but did a compile for to get his wishes.
I only want to change what is default. Would that really need a
compile of Rox?

If by "show vertically" you mean display in list view,
then that is pretty straight forward to do.
1. Open a ROX-Filer window, and right click on empty area (ie: not on an icon)
Then select Options from the menu that pops up. (See pic-1)
2. Select (highlight) Display in the left hand list,
Then change the View type: from Icons View to List View
Finally click OK. (See pic-2 and pic-3)

Now that you describe it that detailed I got my problem solved.
But now I do remember that Flash told the same thing
in the thread I linked to but I failed to get what
he talked about. Damn I need to buy me a better brain
Much appreciated you took time to give that explanation.
I had nearly giving up on the whole thing. So many months
of frustration to not get anything of the Manual.
why do they recommend that one read the Manual.
I mean only those who write them get what it is about
Ooops Yeah I know. I should try to write a Manual myself
and then I know how difficult it really is. Still they could warn
"Only read this Manual if you usually do get what such describe! "

Yes I did actually think about doing that.
But somehow forgot about it.
Usually due to my pics gets very big.
I am not good at making them smaller and less MB
without them become very low resolution.

Are you aware of the Rox "mini buffer"? (right-click>window>enter path, or you can normally get it by pressing /)

I don't want you to give up on me but I don't get what you say there.
I first read what Flash recommended in the thread that I linked to
and then the advice above and then what CatDude told me
and that one I did understand and applied so now I do get by default
what I do want so solved
So I have no clue on what you write about. You mean that create a more
flexible way to achieve the same or what? Sorry me so dense.
Edit. I tested what you wrote but fail to get what one are supposed to use it for?

With "order small icons vertically" and "order large icons vertically" selected, when using icon view Rox will sort the icons vertically
e.g.
1 7
2 8
3 9
4 10
5 11
6 12
rather than what it normally does:
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
9 10
11 12
But I think if the icons don't all fit in the window it will still scroll horizontally, not vertically.

Or is the part of my post that you don't understand my response to darkcity about the mini-buffer?
That doesn't have anything to do with your original question. What it is useful for is navigating with the keyboard instead of the mouse.
