I like the lupu5 and got the chromium working with youtube. When I goto a Korean site, characters are not correct.
I see no korean language pack in the PPM.

anyone have a suggestion?

Hi gychang

There are two language packs that contain Korean support, langpack_all (it has many languages) and langpack_cjk (it has only Chinese, Japanese and Korean). Both of them include the fonts and input method for Korean. There may be parts in English, but if you just want to be able to see Korean fonts and type Korean you will be able to do it with both packages, even if you don't change the system language to Korean. To install an SFS file you can go to Menu > System > BootManager, or you can use SFS-load.

If you are interested, you can participate making a Korean language pack by using Wary or Racy and going to Menu > Utilities > MoManager and following the instructions. Or you can tell anyone who is interested in translating Puppy Linux to do so. If you decide to participate, the translators will give you as much help as we can.

I am unable to locate correct lang_pack in the PPM. Under SFS files available I see no lang_packs. I added some repos but I don't see the correct lang-packs. I am rather new in puppy so I am unable to help out in your offer.

is there an easy solution so I can view the Korean web sites?

Warning about SFS files: SFS files are great, see the Package Management Overview page. However, they have a limitation, cannot be loaded and unloaded with the BootManager if you have a full hard-drive installation of Puppy. In that situation, read the above instructions given for the "devx_xxx.sfs" file.

actually I had given up. I have switched to crunchbang. Puppy is faster but with my limited knowledge too many hurdles to go thru.

I appreciate all the help that is available here. I will unmark, SOLVED.

thanks for this link, I was able to download it and install by using loading sfs on the fly from PupControl.

Now I can read Korean fonts properly, thank you.

if you just want to view Korean characters just installing the TTF font file would be enough

I extracted the fonts from shinobar's language packs and made a PET (3.5 MB):

You can read text in Korean, Chinese and Japanese after installing it. Great if you just want to be able to read, if you also want to type you need shinobar's language pack. It wouldn't make sense if I extract the input method because that is what makes the language pack so big.
