However, I've been totally unsuccessful in running from a multi-session dvd.As soon as the saved session starts to load there is an immediate kernel panic. Tried twice with 2 different dvds but then again it may just be me.

Did a USB install.
A bit of a disaster I'm afraid.
No frisbee in the menu.
No wl driver.
Failed to find save-file on re-boot.
I will download again and re-install, it must be a bad download.

Quote: | No frisbee in the menu. |
That's correct, no Frisbee. Use Wpa_Gui in the tray. For some basic instructions on how to use Wpa_Gui see:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/web/faqs/tray.html
The wl driver is in there. But it only automatically loads for PCID's not claimed by the open source drivers. To force wl to load for all Broadcom wireless chip sets, open the Control Panel and then on the system tab, click on Mange Servers and Services. Then enable BC-wl to start at boot.
Quote: | Failed to find save-file on re-boot. |
If you named your save file something other than fd64save.3fs or fd64save.4fs, or you put it in a sub-directory, you'll need to pass that information during boot. Usually in your grub entry, Read about how to use the savefile parameter here:
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fatdog/web/faqs/boot-options.html

Kirk thanks for the reply:
When creating the file-save I would have followed the default options.
However I did a fresh download and install and that for whatever reason solved my file-save problem.
Re Wpa-Gui:
I followed your instructions, double checked and re-booted a number of times but It doesn't find my wl driver.
Maybe you would consider re-instating frisbee in the final release or if that didn't fit with your plans maybe you would post a frisbee.pet.
I have the driver in a .pet you kindly provided when I had the same problem with the alpha release.

irishrm, I remember you said beta2 worked for you, is that true?
kirk - I think the wl module may have been accidentally omitted when we rebuild kernel-modules.sfs.

My cusom Fatdog64 600rc works fine as a live CD . I installed it with a small initrd on USB , using it now ...
I have to use Network Wizard because wpagui doesn't work .
I used Frisbee successfully on a previous version : it can be configured to start when Fatdog starts just like wpagui .
I know net can be configured from boot line , so I wait for the final release ...

Wow and wow. That's all I can say. I've never been so impressed. And I'm a thirty-year geek with UNIX experience starting in 1994, first XWINDOWS at work in 1995, then many versions of Linux. This is the best thing I have ever seen or used. It's better than Windows.
Fatdog64 is a new version of Puppy Linux. It runs in 64bit and resides entirely in RAM, along with all the included apps. The boot may be unplugged once the desktop is loaded. I am using my SSD to store downloads and user settings but I've limited that to 2GB.
I really like my Fatdog64 desktop. And it comes preloaded with everything you should need, including the latest flash player and a top-notch media player, VLC. It's way better than Totem and compares to some of the best Windows media tools.
I have also already used the standard document > pdf converter, which I have never seen but it's great. Naturally it also had a .pdf reader, spreadsheet and word processor. No hassling with any downloads or drivers or anythings. OS just worked
From my experience with many linux distros, I'd have to say this is the best for me. I dislike the Gnome 3 desktop which many have chosen as their best offering. If I wanted a bunch of hidden, docking crap I'd buy an IPad or somerhing. KDE is equally bad.
I realize that you can install a different GUI for any given UNIX or Linux but it's much better to find something like FD64 who has the same vision and already put in all the effort to make it work as perfectly as this does. Thanks to all who have made this.
BTW: Wireless, sound + everything worked perfectly.

New frugal installation on an ext4 partition is working great on my desktop computer with my usual installed programs including using getnvidia. Amazing speed and stability.
Requests for final release.
1. Faster loading of pmount (it takes about 35 seconds to load on my hardware).
2. Include Frisbee.
3. Include Woof “Desktop drive icon manager”.
4. Keep the Chosen Mirror in Package Manager upon closing. (Jamesbond’s "EDIT: mirror setting is now preserved across invocations. Will be in the next release." did not make it into the RC.)
5. Include “Desktop Templates for Desk icons” program similar to Slacko’s.

But, it has been much slower download speeds than other means of delivery. Kirk or James, would you consider using your Google means or some of the others available during the "RC" periods leading to "GA".
