A year or two ago, you could have easily said.

*Skype allows users to securely communicate with peers by voice, video, and instant messaging over the Internet.*

Gone are the days of secure.

I watch these indy news shows and they usually interview guests via skype. And about sensitive topic such as activism, war and the economy...

It's awfully sad that Microsoft bought that program.

For Skype, most likely yes. But the coders of RetroShare have announced to add voip to their software very soon:

http://www.gulli.com/news/18214-retroshare-file-sharing-and-communication-undercover-2012-02-23

At this moment there is no VOiP built in yet, but it already is very useful for activists. Puppy 5.2 version is here

http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=79053
http://www.datafilehost.com/download-ac30748e.html

and the portable windows 5.3 version does its job under wine (and can be run out of a truecrypt container)

good tutorials about retroshare are available at youtube:

Many thanks for this pet - just a report that it works on Exprimo squeeze_5.X.3.1.10.3

but it needed qt-4.8.0-basic-with-qtwebkit-dpup.pet loaded as well to satisfy missing dependencies......

Cheers
