Problem Installing Puppy Slacko |
|
Hello everyone, i'm new here, and i have maybe a silly question for you. I'm trying to install puppy (slacko 5.3.3) in my netbook from live usb. The usb boots up and start to do things but the installation pauses and with this written on the screen:
puppypc23528 login: root (automatic login)
#
Any idea what to do?

Have you done a checksum on the iso that you downloaded?
How did you install Slacko to the USB? unetbootin? Manual install? Universal installer from Puppy?

When you get to that prompt try typing "xorgwizard" (without the quotes). Run through the wizard and just follow instructions. At the end type "xwin" (no quotes). Then report back what happened.

Just to chip in, I just installed Slacko for the first time today and got the same prompt.
Rebooted and the same thing came up again but this time also got a rubric prompting me to type xorgwizard as you said. For a beginner it is a little daunting..

the command "xwin" just tries to turn a windows environment back on, if for some reason you're stuck with nothing but a blinking cursor
Don't be daunted.
Normally puppy tries to set the best looking screen for you, but sometimes it needs your help. Typing xorgwizard at a prompt will start a guided process. (Basically it will ask you how big your screen is). You can guess and experiment, if you don't know. You're not really breaking anything.
And, the nicest thing about puppy. Its hard to really screw up, in that 99% of the time, you can just start over and in 5 minutes try a different choice if something goes wrong.
(whereas if you hit the wrong key in windows at setup, you might live with that decision for the rest of the computers life)
