Testing |

TEST:
Upgraded Slacko-5.3.3.1 to Slacko-5.3.3.2
Using the standard upgrade procedure (noticed it was somewhat different than previous upgrades) but it went well.
No apps lost or failed to function. Did have to re-install desktop background picture and remove the duplicate desktop icons (I have wbar installed) but that wasn't an issue. Even xscreensaver came through and works as it should (from slackware repo in the PPM)
For sure, faster than 5-3.3.1 was.
Overall I would say a success and again mic... 'nice work!'
One issue that I mentioned back in the 5.3.3 thread was with xscreensaver itself (which by the way was never addressed?). Although it functions properly with MOST of the standard features in it... the functions like Carousel, GLslideshow and I believe one more that uses GRAPHICS or PICTURES... work but... do not display the graphic or picture itself and I believe I have tried all the settings available? It would be nice to have this feature corrected if possible as xscreensaver in Slacko is the ONLY puppy xscreensaver ever worked properly in and it is a really nice touch for Slacko.
Looking forward to test next update!!!!!

flash player problem |
|
Initially both SeaMonkey 2.1 and Opera-Next-1201-1491 reported flash-player update required. flash-player-11.2.202.233 from the PPM slacko repository did not work.
I then download the flash-player-10.0.15.3-w5c.pet from here:
ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distributions/quirky/pet_packages-wary5/flashplayer-10.0.15.3-w5c.pet
This flash player worked with SeaMonkey, but not Opera.
I then upgraded to the latest Opera-Next-12.50-1497 and the flash player worked.
Running an AMD Athon 2 GB processor with nvidia GeForce FX5200.

How about flashplayer-11-11.2.202.228?
Have you checked the GetFlash in the menu?

Flash Player |
|
Tried Getflash to download flashplayer-11-11.2.202.228. Download seemed successful, but then I got the error message: Quote: | Sorry the Player did not download, try the Puppy Package Manager. |
The PPM does not have .288, but it does have 10.2.183.18. I installed this version and initialized it in SeaMonkey. After that, it worked fine in Opera-Next-12.01-1491 as well.
Incidentally, the latest Opera-Next realease 12.50-1497 has a keyboard problem (arrow keys don't work among other things - bug report filed and acknowledged).

Gnome-mplayer played the whole suite of test videos I have been using since early in Lupu. It also played a DVD with menus working as well as they ever do in gnome-mpayler--working well enough to use--they just look blocky. Good result.
Here is the test suite -> http://diddywahdiddy.net/Puppy500/Media_Test.tar.gz There are a three different kinds of mov files, 3 kinds of mp4, an mpg, an rm, an avi, a wmv, and a 3gp. Xine won't play them all--I can't remember about VLC. (Admittedly, some might be very rare formats.)

Only one problem i found is the gnome-mplayer cannot interpret UTF-8 encoded path name in .asx file, while the Xine can.
Another issue is it is difficult to compile mplayer against some version of ffmpeg.
I like Xine, but the xine-plugin is too old and cannot play mp4, mov and etc. on the browsers.

Wireless networking not working with Netgear WN111v2 Subject description: On Slacko 5.3.3.2 |
|
My Netgear WN111v2 USB wireless dongle isn't working at all on Slacko 5.3.3.2 - Puppy can't even see it! I've tried both Network Wizard and Frisbee. I'll post the output of lsmod on both 5.3.3 (on which wireless works perfectly) and 5.3.3.2 tomorrow when I can get on the PC.
On the bright side, I bought my mate's spare HDD so the PC is fully working again. Drive's 'only' 160GB though, so will replace it when the supply situation improves. 1.5TB Western Digital one is still flaky.

gtk.immodules |
|
Slacko has 2 gtk.immodules files, /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules and /etc/gtk-2.0/i486-slackware-linux/gtk.immodules. And also has 1 symlink at /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/gtk.immodules that points /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules.
I think the /etc/gtk-2.0/i486-slackware-linux/gtk.immodules is better to be a symlink to /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules.

The most obvious difference at first glance is that the order of the modules listed is different. Not sure if that matters however. It appears that most, if not all, of the key modules for wireless networking are loaded so I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Needed to use GParted so 5.3.3.2 live pfix=ram in a different dual-core. Same results, internet, display and sound working on initial boot.
