No time to enter boot parameters when booting

#1 Post by kommisar »

I'm booting a vanilla slacko 5.33 off a usb stick. When I boot I'm not given the prompt where I can enter the boot parameters. The boot process seems to progress past this point so I can't for example, enter puppy pfix=ram to not use a save file on the usb stick. Is the 5 second wait to boot that normally occurs when booting off of a CD not happening when booting off USB stick? I'm confused.

Have you tried the F2 key at bootup?

I don't have time to press anything. I select the usb stick from a boot menu and immediately the system goes into the booting process.

Make the USB your first boot option , once the bios screen goes off , hit the F2.

If all of the above fails then go into the main OS for that computer
and edit the boot parameter for time it allow one to chose things.

Suppose Ms Win7 or Vista or XP then you should be able to tell
it to give you 5 seconds or 10 sec to do things.

XP is most easy to use you can add the boot directly using Lin'nwin
that ICPUG tells about.
http://www.icpug.org.uk/national/linnwin/contents.htm

If you have a more modern then it is a bit more complicated.
But you should be able to go into Admin and change the boot time.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

How did you do the USB install?
Do you see the same boot screen, that you do when booting from a live CD?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
When I was a kid I wanted to be older.... This is not what I expected
YaPI(any iso installer)
