@scott .. I'll be porting jwm tools to fvwm1 and/or e16. Any preferences on which to do first... I have e16 @ the same resource usage as jwm, I like the effects and have the desktop icons hacked in but I am missing the tray... Fvwm1 is missing a couple of others, but they are far more capable than any other permissively licensed (bsd,mit,...) wm.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

I vote for e16, I quite like it... Not all that much, but I can see it's a good bit of software... aside from the annoying literal categories in the main menu... (which i presume your tools will fix)... I never used fvwm1 ...

I greatly prefer Iron to Chrome/Chromium, can anyone recommend a suitable pet that will work with Akita?
If anyone can make one, I'll add it to the repo and Browser-Installer :)

You have to install it from the Wary5 repo first...

opera 12 for akita

#666 Post by sc0ttman »

Opera 12 for akita, http://akita.scottjarvis.com/opera-12.00-i386-akita.pet (17mb)

It's very fast, works lovely, added a few changes:

- changed the fonts (Still not perfect)
- added puppy related bookmarks
- updated speed dial buttons
- added extensions: youtube downloader, youtube add-free, ad block, ghostery

e16's menus get generated at each start from a rather slow _perl_ script ...the menus are in a really flat format that is much easier than jwm ... As is fvwm1, but I may need to backport some stuff from fvwm-2.2 (the last non-gpl version) in order to get functionality comparable to jwm ... enlightenment 16 just needs a way to swallow other widgets like a button(s) the pager, systray and iconbar, maybe it already can and I just haven't figured it out yet - the theming methods are poorly documented.

Hi! Nice work, this puplet has a special feel. I'm having only one problem -- for some reason, after making a pupsave and rebooting, the computer won't launch the live CD. I have to remove my USB key and force a reboot for the computer to detect the live CD and launch it instead of loading Wndows. This doesn't happen to me using Puppies other than Akita CD and LupQ/WaryQ CD.

Hi vicmz, thanks.. Shame about this problem you are having, but I know who can help - shinobar - because the only thing those Puppies (Akita/LupQ/WaryQ) have in common, is shinobars tools - Firstrun, PupSaveConfig, Frugal Installer, others. I bet shinobar can find the problem if you report exactly what is happening.

There must be more than just shinobar's tools implied. I use shinobar's pupsaveconfig for slacko and the pupsave does get detected at bootup. The only puplet I have used with pupsave successfully so far is Saluki and it has pupsaveconfig. For the other puplets, even after I make a pupsave, when I reboot the screen remains black, and I can't access the BIOS or type anything, I have to remove my USB key, unplug the pc, plug the pc again and start over. I simply can't explain further than this, I have little technical knowledge. Maybe if I make a full install to the USB key I get better results. Anyway, running the CD as RAM-only keeps being fun :D

It's feast or famine lately, nothing for months, then twice in 2 weeks. Good to see things back in full swing. I have gotten a little sidetracked lately trying to make a bash script that turns the wordnet dictionary into compileable c.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

When booting A10 from CD the grub splash screen still shows it as Akita9. Haven't installed yet just in case there is a mixup. What is the easy way to tell which version is which, once installed?

Sc0ttman,

Hope you're not having a relapse.

I've been using Beta 9 and 10 regularly now, and am happy with it. Here are the 'buts' though....

Not getting any joy with pupRadio. Set the default player to VLC, but when started from the CL, and selecting a preset, I get this:

Code: Select all

# pupradio
VLC media player 1.1.5 The Luggage (revision exported)
[0x804cc14] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[0x80c69cc] main interface error: no suitable interface module
[0x804cc14] main libvlc error: interface "default" initialization failed
I've got no idea how to sort out VLC though.

EDIT: Solved -just changed 'vlc' to 'cvlc' in /usr/local/pupradio/pupradio

Now here's a bit of weirdness..
After making a savefile, if I click on the 'home' partition icon SDA3 (using ROX desktop), I get 3 windows opening - one titled /initrd/mnt/dev_save, and two with /mnt/sda3. Doesn't happen with the other drives. Mind you, might please those who want a dual pane file manager...

My PCMCIA Linksys wifi card needs the b43 module, but Akita will insist on loading bcm43xx, unless it is deleted - settings in Boot Manager have no effect.

Sound card is now detected at first boot.

greengeek:
I'm guessing he just forgot to update the splash screen. Did a manual frugal install myself, so can't check.

Nope, all good, soaking up the sun before it disappears for the rest of the year!
EDIT: Solved -just changed 'vlc' to 'cvlc' in /usr/local/pupradio/pupradio
Will do that for the next one... I've already updated VLC-GTK to 2.4, improved adding/listing of favourite streams.

No idea what to do here. I can't re-produce it... The problem must be in /sbin/pup_event_frontend_d ... I rarely use save file though...

No idea what to do here either! Will have a think...

Good. But it probably broke 10 others ;)

I doubt I can help you there... Short of recommending you get the kernel sources, devx and attempt to re-compile the drivers...
