Easypaint: a QT MS paint replacement |
|
Not really a request as I don't need it myself, but I know a lot of people ask for a replacement of MS Paint.
There is a new contender called Easypaint which is being actively developed. Unfortunately it is QT, but it works really well (I've tried it on Arch).
The main missing features are a text tool (yes, there is a ticket for it) and a flip/mirror function (I didn't look if there is a ticket).
Also, in the version I tried the Effects (gray, negative) and the functions on the tools menu (rotate, resize) don't have their own step in the undo/redo history. But I see there has been refactoring of the undo/redo in GIT, so that could even be fixed now.
Also, if you have QT configured to use the GTK+ gui style, it still uses the QT file dialogs

dear guys,
I compiled it today using qt4.8 in Lucid. It's not bad.
Check out: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=662210#662210.
With kind regards,

Picworks - another QT painting program |
|
There's another one at http://sourceforge.net/projects/picworks/ which is dead but might still be worth checking out.
On my Arch system I ran into what seems like an esoteric C++ build error though

Nice one Vovchik, works in Finlandia, no QT pets needed.
Instant little app for throwing some Banksies together!
Save as png...ping!

Y'know, years ago I used to use a tool called X-Fig (Fig using X-windows -- since most tools were command line in those days). It had the nice feature that the "graphics" were stored as numbers and text, and so labels could even be spell checked.
I wonder if it still exists, and can run under Puppy (I suspect that Debian has it -- I'll have to look)
Edit:
Under Puppy 5.28.005, I went to the Debian site and grabbed these two .deb packages, and it appears that will make Xfig run.
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/i386/xfig/download
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/i386/xaw3dg/download
The main Xfig page:

Anybody still after a MS paint replacement might also like to check out Rassam-paint.

I had another go and resolved that error, but it doesn't actually draw anything... maybe it only ever worked on Windows

For PhotoShop like tools, check out GimpShop (or Gimp)

That's kind of the other end of the spectrum

GIMP might be the other end, but GimpShop has a friendlier user interface.
PicWorks says:
"This is a software for drawing and processing photos and graphics just like Photoshop(C), Paint.NET(C) and GIMP(C)."
(haven't used it, so I don't know how much like Photoshop, etc)

It's actually pretty basic, more like paint.
