You can install as many printers as you want in CUPS.

So the computer that has the DJ1000 as a local USB printer can also have the P1006 as a remote printer. There are no problems.

Or did you also want to make the DJ1000 shareable across the network? Because you can do that from the CUPS running on its computer.

I would like both to be available across the network, please.

I am guessing that I need to either delete and reinstall or change the settings for the 1000?

Ichanged the 1000's settings to local and received this unfriendly error:
hpdeskjet1000-265 Test Page anonymous 1k 1 processing since
Tue Jul 24 01:48:52 2012
"If you have more than one printer connected to this machine, please unload (and blacklist) the "usblp" kernel module as otherwise CUPS will not be able to distinguish your printers."
I see where to blacklist a module but "Remove builtin packages" does not list "usblp" and I don't know where else to unload it.

1. When you install a printer, there is a check box for Sharing. If you have not already set it, run the Modify Printer procedure.

2. Open the Administration page and look at the Server section.
Select the option "Share published printers connected to this system".
Click on Change Settings.

3. If the client machine is also running CUPS, it should automatically detect your shared printer and list it under Printers and in applications. No other installation is required. You may find that a Linux client takes a little longer than Windows to detect the printer.

4. Firewalls will block access to shared printers. From a client machine, you can confirm that the shared printer is working with

Code: Select all

mpscan -p 631 aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

I have checked and double-checked.

No Puppy firewalls are on either the host or client machines.

CUPS shows Shared on both machines.

The 1000 only shows on the host machine.

The 1000 repeats the two printer error when Test launched from the host machine.

Here is the CUPS heading for the 1000:
Description: hpdeskjet1000
Location: mdcaspire
Driver: HP Deskjet 1000 j110 Series, hpcups 3.11.7 (color, 2-sided printing)
Connection: usb://HP/Deskjet%201000%20J110%20series?serial=CN14821JKX05D2
Defaults: job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided

??? The only machine that is sharing a printer is the host. Don't confuse things by enabling sharing on client machines.

So are we back to the original problem of the corrupted DJ1000 on the laptop? There is no point in trying to set up sharing until that is resolved.

Do you recall the original suggestion? Boot the laptop off its Live CD, install the driver, install the printer and make it sharable. Test from the host and the client.

Once you can confirm all that, we can look at resoving the CUPS corruption due to your bad shutdowns.

I unchecked Share on the client laptop & did Change Settingsthen checked that it was still set on the host computer - then did Change Settings there as well. No joy.

It is odd that the 1000 worked fine alone on the router but not in tandem with the P1006 on the router and the 1000 on the host.

I will try the CD-boot again, I seem to recall some sort of conflict where Puppy wanted to create a personal save file before a step could be taken.

Meanwhile, I am going to quickly delete the 1000 on the host computer and reboot - just in case there was something left over from the switch between the 1000 and the P1006 on the router and then the 1000 settings changed on the host computer (rather than deleted at that time and reinstalled).

I have to go into town for a few hours - so I will get back to this later and report the results.

1. On the HOST computer, unplug the DJ1000.

2. Shut down CUPS with

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/cups stop
3. Go to the folder /dev/usb. If there are any files named lp0 or lp1, delete them.

4. Go to the folder /etc/cups. Delete the file named printers.conf.

5. Restart CUPS with

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/cups start
6. Plug in the DJ1000, reinstall it in CUPS and make it sharable.

7. Test.

Remember that you don't need to do ANYTHING on the client machines, except run the mpscan command to confirm that sharing is working.

Done to here.

QUESTION: There are two printer.conf files, one a text-type and one has an icon like a puzzle-piece, what's that second one, please? Should I delete it?

The second one is named printers.conf.O. Ignore it.

OK, the 1000 is working on the host and from a client.

P1006 is gone.

What steps should I follow to reinstall the P1006 without compromising the 1000, please?

I followed the prior steps to install the P1006 on the router again and GOOD NEWS!

Both printers are playing nicely together in CUPS! :lol:

Thanks again ... David

I trialled Dpup Exprimo 5.X.3.4.2.8 on my PIII 560MHz and found* Firefox 14 ran too slow to be usable, so I´m staying with Exprimo 5.X.14 where Firefox 14 is a pleasure to use, scrolls smoothly, and I regularly surf with 30 tabs open.

In 5.X.14 I notice a segmentation fault in xerrs.log:
...
SELinux: Disabled on system, not enabling in X server
The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports:
> Warning: Type "ONE_LEVEL" has 1 levels, but <RALT> has 2 symbols
> Ignoring extra symbols
Errors from xkbcomp are not fatal to the X server
cat: /sys/block/fd0/device/vendor: No such file or directory
cat: /sys/block/fd0/device/model: No such file or directory
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
/usr/bin/jwm
Playing Sparc Audio '/usr/share/audio/2barks.au' : Mu-Law, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono
acpid: can't open /proc/acpi/event: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/acpitool
AC adapter : <info not available or off-line>
+ gtkdialog-splash -timeout 3 -placement top -bg lightblue -text 'Switching to Performance Mode'
/usr/sbin/delayedrun: line 110: 7498 Segmentation fault $a

++ cat /etc/acpi/performance-brightness
+ BRIGHT=10
+ echo 10
Puppy seems to run just fine, so this may be of no consequence, though it´s disquieting. :|

*also found mplayer in 5.X.3.4.2.8 wouldn´t run, it complained about an unrecognized instruction, saying the code was maybe compiled for a different machine

I think I had intel celeron level optimized mplayer2 version in 5.X.3.4.2.8. I havent targeted 3.4.2 kernel version to those PIII level comps. There are several Puppies floating for those older comps.
I use mplayer2....mostly. You can grap whicever statically compiled mplayer2 version from my or Iguleders builds which are more generically compiled. I swap often to my multicore optimized version but those are certainly incompatible for PIII or PIV....even for intel celeron. So....I use them...but I dont publish them as often.
I have had several different mplayer2 compiles...always using latest git.
Nowadays python 3 is needed dependency when you want to finetune the configurations and because I am not so familiar with Python and I dont like to understand it either...I mostly compile mplayer2 with my comp recognized parameters.

Long post about mplayer2. Mplayer2 is quite sensitive of the cpu and it would need quite generic configuration parameters to suit all users and their cpus. So....just swap the working mplayer2 from my builds and keep it as backup and use it.

/usr/sbin/delayedrun: line 110: 7498 Segmentation fault $a
That row runs /root/Startup scripts. I suspect that 1vattery or tempiconsvg.sh script is behind that seqfaulting. It means that one of the launched app...vattery-acpitool or tray tempicon is not compatible with your PIII.
Which one is missing from your jwm tray. Battery icon or cpu temperature icon. That one seqfaults. Nothing serious....just remove that seqfaulting script from /root/Startup.....and the error message dissapears.

If I create this file (from MythTV installation) in 5x14:

~/root/mythtv/database/mc.sql

And then insert the following instructions would they execute and create and configure a database - or is some other app required for the database to be created?

Code: Select all

1 CREATE DATABASE IF NOT EXISTS mythconverg;

2 GRANT ALL ON mythconverg.* TO mythtv@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "mythtv";

3 FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

4 GRANT CREATE TEMPORARY TABLES ON mythconverg.* TO mythtv@localhost IDENTIFIED BY "mythtv";

5 FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

6 ALTER DATABASE mythconverg DEFAULT CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci;

Viewing Local IP Stream?

#2058 Post by edoc »

I can see the signal strength on CH9 using the hdhomerun app with the SiliconDust OTA-to-IP tuner.

I pressed VIEW.

When I open gnome-mplayer and try the various settings in Preference none of them produces an image.

I entered the IP 192.168.1.149 in mplayer as a location and nothing.

I also tried that IP in Seamonkey - and just got the hdhomerun menu

Xastir does not seem to have DOTdesktop file. How to get it working. Install xastir using PPM, check examine dependencies, install tons of them, update xastir using your provided link deb, install gdebi using PPM, launch xastir in console, install the rest of missing stuff using PPM, until xastir launches. Enjoy. You might find working DOTdesktop file from the net or you can create it yourself using existing DOTdesktop file as template. They seem to have been lazy.
I think I included Menu Entry Maker in Utility. Nice hobby to create it yourself.
Cheers.
