When booting A10 from CD the grub splash screen still shows it as Akita9. Haven't installed yet just in case there is a mixup. What is the easy way to tell which version is which, once installed?

Sc0ttman,

Hope you're not having a relapse.

I've been using Beta 9 and 10 regularly now, and am happy with it. Here are the 'buts' though....

Not getting any joy with pupRadio. Set the default player to VLC, but when started from the CL, and selecting a preset, I get this:
Code:

# pupradio
VLC media player 1.1.5 The Luggage (revision exported)
[0x804cc14] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[0x80c69cc] main interface error: no suitable interface module
[0x804cc14] main libvlc error: interface "default" initialization failed

I've got no idea how to sort out VLC though.

EDIT: Solved -just changed 'vlc' to 'cvlc' in /usr/local/pupradio/pupradio

Now here's a bit of weirdness..
After making a savefile, if I click on the 'home' partition icon SDA3 (using ROX desktop), I get 3 windows opening - one titled /initrd/mnt/dev_save, and two with /mnt/sda3. Doesn't happen with the other drives. Mind you, might please those who want a dual pane file manager...

My PCMCIA Linksys wifi card needs the b43 module, but Akita will insist on loading bcm43xx, unless it is deleted - settings in Boot Manager have no effect.

Sound card is now detected at first boot.

greengeek:
I'm guessing he just forgot to update the splash screen. Did a manual frugal install myself, so can't check.

Nope, all good, soaking up the sun before it disappears for the rest of the year!

Will do that for the next one... I've already updated VLC-GTK to 2.4, improved adding/listing of favourite streams.

No idea what to do here. I can't re-produce it... The problem must be in /sbin/pup_event_frontend_d ... I rarely use save file though...

No idea what to do here either! Will have a think...

Good. But it probably broke 10 others Wink

Yep.

I doubt I can help you there... Short of recommending you get the kernel sources, devx and attempt to re-compile the drivers...

Akita 10 has opera 12 and ff13 in the browser installer, previous versions do not. I should use DISTRO_SPECS next time.

Subject description: DBGL DOSbox Game Launcher in Akita 10

Hey sc0ttman Smile
thanks very much for your recent upgrades - I'm liking your FF13 very much with its personalizations - I just add in the wellminded search engine and I'm happy as a pig in proverbial... and I haven't even downloaded and installed qupzilla 1.3.1 yet, which should be a blast...

To the main purpose of my feedback: with sick kids at home these last 2 days I revisited the idea of using a frugal install of Akita on my Lenovo T60 (dual core, 2GHz CPU with 2Gb RAM) for emergency babysitting. And, in a similar vein to your "Arcade" series of pupplets went to install Ronald Blankendaal's "DBGL" (DOSBox Game Launcher) http://members.quicknet.nl/blankendaalr/dbgl/#install. I downloaded the 32-bit tar.gz plus the DBGL.jar update and extracted them into a new 'dbgl' directory off root. I also downloaded the gamepack archives Blakendaal had provided for configuration examples, placing them (unextracted) in the same directory. Then from your repository I installed 'dosbox-0.73-akita.pet' and 'jre-1.6.0.30-akita.pet' (and also boost-1.46.1.pet , on the assumption I might have needed it for SDL libraries).
With the instruction/proviso from Blakendaal:
Quote:
Attention Linux users: Make sure you have the packages 'libsdl-sound' and 'libsdl-net' installed (sudo apt-get install libsdl-sound1.2 libsdl-net1.2), because otherwise the included DOSBox build will NOT run. /usr/bin/java should be (a symbolic link) pointing to the 1.5+ JVM (sudo apt-get install openjdk-6-jre). If you're having problems starting up DOSBox inside DBGL (some error message saying "Can't init SDL DirectFBCreate: Initialization error!") chances are you're using the GNU Interpreter for Java. It seems this Java distribution has a problem in the ProcessBuilder implementation. Please use openJDK or Sun's Java Runtime as a workaround.

Not really sure if libsdl-sound was already in your boost package, I installed from the wary repo 'libsdl_sound-1.0.3-w5', and from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_net/release/SDL_net-1.2.8.tar.gz simply extracted/installed using pzip (I think). Then I made a symlink in "/usr/bin/java" to your java exec "usr/java/jre1.6.0_30/bin/java". Not really having the nous to construct a menu entry, I just used Xbindkeys to point to the dbgl exec script using the Win+g combo (for 'games'). Worked straight off the bat Smile
Imported over a hundred games from the dbgl.zip files, and I must say that it's a real pleasure to have them all loading with sound and full playability - unlike my varied experiences with FreeDOS and memory management to match up the requirements of particular games -

Cheers!

Hi Puppyt, thanks for the excellent info once again... I read this soon after you posted, but have been a little busy...

Never seen that Dbgl thingy before... Nice... Added to repo!

Akita needs only JRE and sdl_sound.. The latter will be added to the next ISO as standard...

(Boost is not needed at all... Dosbox 074 is included in the Dbgl pkg, in /usr/share/dbgl...
The Dobbox 073 pkg doesn't actually need sdl_sound, BTW... )

Then I made a symlink in "/usr/bin/java" to your java exec "usr/java/jre1.6.0_30/bin/java".

Updated the JRE pkg in the akita repo, it now has this /usr/bin/java symlink by default.

Re: jre... I recently built jamvm 1.5.4 with gnu classpath 0.99 ... It's not too bad and jamvm is only ~200kb (gnu classpath's glibj.zip can be between 1 and 10mb depending on how much is configured in / cut back) ... BTW if you want to build jamvm against openjdk (now possible in trunk) don't pass cflags or it can break.

Hi, I use Akita an love it for it is stripped down and can run on old PCs. One problem I have is: whenever I try to open a PDF file, epdfview or zathura give me a segmentaion fault and crash. I tryed to download Foxit pdf reader, but it gives me the same problem. If I open those applications without opening a pdf file, they open OK, but if I choose OPEN... pdf , they crash. The console says -Segmentation fault. This never happened with Turbopup on which Akita is based. Suggestions? The Pc is a pentium III 700 Mhz coppermine, BX chipset, 512MB ram + 512MB swap. Thank you in advance.

Mupdf is in the now Akita repo... Click the update button (next to 'Filter' btn) in the PPM and Akita will update the repo and tell you what packages have been added.. Mupdf will be included in the list. It works very well.

Er... quite magically, on subsequent reboots, both zathura and epdfview began to work as expected. I don't know how to explain this, as I tried to open PDF files even on a fresh install, having the same crash. Consider solved my problem!! Thank you for the quick answer !!

I recently cobbled together an old computer from used parts. Akita uploads and runs fairly snappy but I can't get Firefox 13 or IceCat to load Facebook without major hangups. It's got plenty of RAM(1.75gb) and the CPU does reach 100% but just for a few seconds when starting to load. Any suggestion?

I recently cobbled together an old computer from used parts. Akita uploads and runs fairly snappy but I can't get Firefox 13 or IceCat to load Facebook without major hangups. It's got plenty of RAM(1.75gb) and the CPU does reach 100% but just for a few seconds when starting to load. Any suggestion?
