How to use PoEdit? SOLVED Subject description: Trying to use it with my system |
|
Since I've reasembled the remainings of my first self-built computer with a ASUS P5G41T-M LX3 motherboard with KVR1333D3S8N9/2G RAM, the rest of my system consists of a P4 631+ (Cedar Mill) 3 Ghz processor and a Samsung DVD reader.
Because my knowledge of computers is still poor and I want to keep myself trained, after using my system I always clear the real time clock RAM in CMOS and I always configure the BIOS settings after powering my system on.
I have allways booted the reasembled system into Lupu 5.1.1 by means of a Live CD and, to keep myself trained, I configure it each time I power my computer on.
I'm not using an internal hard disk.
I sometimes save my personal stuff on a small USB flash drive.
I've never saved files that are related to Puppy's configuration.
From time to time (by means of a USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE adapter) I access some of the data that remain in the 160 GB internal hard disk of the system that I have described in the third before last paragraph of the original post of a
thread that was mainly addressed to Flash.
I have frequently thought that my difficulties with Puppy come from the sum of my poor knowledge of computing and the failure to find a non biased towards M$ online computer/technical support site where I can trustfully ask my questions. Some times I have asked for help to find such a site. The last time I received some advise and explanations from Dewbie and I've decided to follow his advice starting this thread.
Currently I would like to use PoEdit.
I think I have downloaded it correctly from http://sourceforge.net/projects/poedit/files/ to /tmp/
But now, I want to install it and I don't know how.
I have been trying unsuccessfully to find my way through
| Quote: | Menu=>Setup=>Setup Puppy=>Check dependencies installed pkg
========================>Puppy Package Manager
========================>Quickpet install Popular Programs
========================>Wizard Wizard |
I also began to read the 44 threads where this application has been named but I think it will be very unlikely to find an answer tailored to my system.
Can you please help me?

Though I am not using poeditor (I am using devx, momanager and geany for translations)
I know how to install it.
What you are refering to is the source of poedit. You should compile it to get an executable file.
But you are in puppy and here you can use use pet or sfs
Just install one of the poedit.sfs´ or poedit.pets
pet: click on link and save to .... (where you will always have access to)
install by one click on that file.
sfs download and make it active using sfs_load

Thank you L18L!!!! Subject description: Why I didn't thank you before in this thread. |
|
I didn't thank you before because I spent most of my free time trying to read the 44 threads and 116 posts with the word PoEdit. But I hadn't enough time to read them carefully.
However, the search led me to some apparent links to download sites for PoEdit.pet but unfortunately, all those links were broken.
I also saw that at thread Wary/Racy 5.3RC2 where | BarryK wrote: |
Note, the desktop 'install' icon has a choice to install SFS files, and I have added 'poedit' -- if you install this, MoManager will recognise it and optionally use it -- in case you don't want to use Geany text editor to edit po translation files. | and, at page 2, you exchanged some ideas with him about poedit and I began to wonder if I shouldn't try to use PoEdit.sfs in stead of PoEdit.pet
So I focused my search on the PoEdit.sfs issue and I prepared a list of URLs that seemed useful to study.
After receiving your last post I've changed my mind and will prioritize studying your link.
Thank you very much!!!!

Problem solved Subject description: The problem was solved almost immediately |
|
Because I didn't find sfs_load on my Lucid 5.1.1 Puppy I downloaded it:
Following shinobar's original post I chose a stable version and downloaded it from http://shino.pos.to/linux/puppy/
I then downloaded poedit-1.4.2-4.sfs from http://distro.ibiblio.org/quirky/sfs/ because there is a md5sum option there.
My following step was to load poedit-1.4.2-4.sfs with SFS Load on-the-fly v.1.4.
Some clicks after that I had Poedit working.
Thank you all !!
