Puppy Forum link error

#1 Post by 8-bit »

A few times now, when I would click on my link for this forum, I would get a message after a pause that murga-linux.com/puppy could not be found.
I wanted to bring this to administrator's attention.
Also, at the same time, if I first went to puppylinux.info and clicked on its link to the Main forum, it worked fine.
And both web addresses show as the same.

I do not know what is causing this. But it is not good.

Some weeks back I experienced a very similar problem.
i.e. Both the Murga-linux and the PC-Guide forums could not be connected to.
I contacted my ISP [Virgin] tech assistance.
He said that these forums were blocking connection by their server address being used at that particular time, so he walked me through configuring the browser to use a Proxy and a different port.
That fixed the problem.
He said I should wait a week or two, and could/should then disable the use of the proxy and go back to the original settings.
I did that, and it worked, just as he said.

8-bit, since no one else has reported having the same problem, it seems the problem is probably not at the Puppy forum end. I'm no Internet troublshooter, but can you try pinging the Puppy forum just to see if that can tell you anything? There's a recent (month or two old) thread discussing troubleshooting with traceroute and other tools.

It could very well be my internet provider of Century Link.
Also, since at times my internet connection degrades, the request to go to a forum site my have been corrupted on transmission.
And I tend to think that is the cause.
I have had their service techs out a number of times to try to correct my bad connection and still end up with the same problems.
I have heard some others say that my problem is that I need to have my Actiontec 5000 modem upgraded to a later one to gain speed and reliability.
Supposedly, a faster modem will work better.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a murga-linux.org domain that redirects to puppylinuxforum.org ?

This showed up in search results from DuckDuckGo today.

Could this be confusing the search engines?

I don't know about search engines, but it sure could confuse people looking for info about Puppy. I think that's it's purpose. Does puppyite even mention Barry Kauler?

That sounds like another attempt by Puppyite to get users over to his forum.
It looks like he bought/registered the name with the org extension to redirect users to his site.

I think John Murga can start a lawsuite to get a compensation consisting into many many dollars since as far I know, is not fully legal registering domains with too similar names (but I'm not a lawyer)

see here:

- Legality of registering similar domain names - Are there legal consequences to purchasing a similar domain name?

domain infos about murga-linux.org are masqueraded with ID-SHIELD
- http://www.ip-adress.com/whois/murga-linux.org
replace .co.cc with .info to get access to stuff I posted in forum
dropbox 2GB free
OpenOffice for Puppy Linux

People here seem interested so I asked Puppyite about this stuff.

About buying murga-linux.org - “Best ten bucks I ever spent, would have been cheap at twice the price
