Can I convert a .pdf to simple text in Puppy? [solved]

#1 Post by nooby »

I tried a search but maybe put in wrong search word?
there is the opposite to take a text and make a .pdf
but I ask how to make the ,pdf of internet file into
a pdf on my HD?

Some suggested that Geanie would be able to.
I give it a try but if you know how then please share.

I am trying this .pdf a science text sort of. Interview
on how we sense our self.
http://www.brainsciencepodcast.com/stor ... e-Hood.pdf

Very interesting about research how we get an identity.
I want to be able to quote short parts of it on a forum.

But the select text thing fail to work for me. Maybe protected?

Test of your solution I paste this from the resulted txt file
S. Pinker, The Language Instinct, 1994 Copyright Virginia Campbell, MD 2012

Jay you are an Angel :)
Much appreciated you told me a solution that simple.

I had to rename it to .txt though. But that maybe where implied :)
I will set it as solved now

Ooops did not see this one

In Adobe/Reader9 you can select

What is In Adobe/Reader9 is that something one need to add?
What is the purpose of it? you mean that one can do quotes
without one needing to convert first?
did you find that one in Puppy repo then or is it the Flash reader
in the Firefox or SeaMonkey you talk about? Sorry me not used to
that program at all. When does one need that one?

So if I install Adobe/Reader9 that would allow me to select and
paste to another document then? But how big is Adobe/Reader9
and is not that not some kind of overkill?

Sometimes there is a pdf on the web that you have to edit and send back. Only possible using reader from adobe
http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

i have this installed on /mnt/home/opt so it can be used from any puppy.

But yes 50 MB is overkill if you want just quote something
:D

The beauty is it works with anything that will print.

Just select print and when it asks you to choose which printer, select "To File". It then asks you for a file name and location that you want it to use. It will create a new file.

Burn_IT thanks for you patience with a true noob.
I am so lost that I don't even know where that choice is
When does the "Print" come up? I guess it is obvious when
one see it. Do I start up Rox or is it in pdfview or what?

I feel stupid now it is not your fault.

You mean inside pdfview there is a Print there
but I have no idea how to find home there.
It only show Root or linux distros and I don't want to print it into an iso

Does it look prettier if one do it your way instead of the
fast and easy CLI thing? Or is that one doing exactly the same?

to Nooby from Sweden,

The Puppy EPDFviewer program, my version,
will not allow the print to text function that you mention.

There are a dozen combinations of formats,
versions, locks, encryptions for a PDF file.

Adobe has editor that will 'encrypt' the file, and there is no way to break it.
Adobe gets paid to provide software that creates a "secure" published doc. .
That way, you cannot modify the contents and then 're-publish' new version.

On the other hand,
I have come across 'simple' type "1-A" file.pdf files
which can be opened by AbiWord, which strips-out all the PostScript code.
Then I save as a 'text' file, and reload into LibreOffice, modify the contents, and save as a new "PDF" file.

(LibreOffice "Writer" has better options than AbiWord,
so I use LibreOffice most of the time. )

Puppy Linux is more fun than a barrel of M$ monkeys :P

Copying text from that PDF is permitted, (I used Foxit PDF reader), attached is a screengrab ...

Now I get it. None told me and I failed to imagine
it worked like it does. My bad. I try to explain.

It works the other way around. First go to the text
Then highlight what you want to copy.

You place the cursor at the beginning of choice and then press
right index finger and drage cursor over the text you want.

As soon as you are at the end and release the index then the highligt
disappear Never mind go to the upper right corner and the icon
for tools? There it says Select Text and that place that text in the
memory an then you go to the box here at Murga or the document
you want to paste in the quote and you do click on middle wheel or button?
and that paste the text. Like here below.

The Brain Science Podcast is part of sciencepodcasters.org, the website

So no need to get the 0.1.8 or any other Foxit or what name they have.

When one know how to some things are very easy but not knowing how
can be very time consuming to find out by accident how it should be done.
