Can't find Puppy on Blag LVM2 partition (Solved)

#1 Post by jodaj »

Made a silly mistake and now don't know how to fix it .

I was running Blag on this computer for a few days -- left windows and decided to go back to the old faithful Puppy linux that I played with about 4 years ago - downloaded the latest one Fat Slacko
run it 5.3.3
installed it on Blag partition
grubbed it and then when I restarted lost Blag

Please help new to linux and want to stay away from windows
cannot access Blag area from Puppy what have I done wrong ?

8: 30 PM
checking the space on hard drive and only 1 mb left so cannot save files on exit --- please help I want to use Puppy as my main system but all my info is on the Blag
Cannot see the Blag partition at all
Having trouble even finding the grub config file

HEEEEEEEEELP

9:53 PM
seems my Blag partition is LVM which Puppy cannot see any suggestions on how to mount the partition or atleast un mount the Puppy and get back to Blag so I can grab my info off it and then format the LVM for Puppy

Are you having us on? I have never heard of a Blag partition. I'm not surprised that Puppy can't see it. (If Puppy can't see it, how did you "install" Puppy in that partition?) Does Windows see the partition? How do you even know it's there? How did you create it?

LVM is not a filesystem for a partition. It means Logical Volume Manager.

I assume the OP means http://www.blagblagblag.org/ believe it's based on Fedora now.

What type install did you choose for Fat Slacko?
Frugal or full?

Did you make any format changes to partition when you did the install?
If Fat Slacko is on that partition and you can run it. It has to be able to access partition to run.

Should be drive icon on desktop for each partition.
If you left click on partition icon, what happens?
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

thank you for the replies
I did a full install but don't think I did any format changes to the partition
cfdisk says

free space pri/log 1.05 mb
sda1 bootable (Fat Slacko) Primary ext 4 500 mb
sda2 (Blag ) Primary LVM2 member 999 687 mb
free space pri/log 0.75mb

On the desktop I only get the sda1 icon only - 500 mb

Well I'm gonna try and use the Blag live cd and transfer the files I need off the partition . This will hopefully give me the opportunity to to format the drive and then set up a dual boot ... fingers crossed
Thanks so much for the responses

500MB is not going to give you much room for a full install of Puppy. a normal full install uses around 320MB. Not much left for adding other programs and normal operations.

If you repartition, for full installs, partition format needs to be ext 2, 3, or 4.

Puppy does not recognize this type of partition control.
One can think of LVM as a thin software layer on top of the hard disks and partitions
