xorg76 locks out keyboard?

every time I download it and attempt to install it, it locks up my keyboard and mouse, as if it loses its keyboard from the previous installation. I have to do a hard reset as no keystrokes have any input. How do I fix this? BTW, im running xvesa just fine on a terrible ATI M4 graphics card in a older DEll inspiron 8000 laptop. Seems to like the R128 driver but I dont know if it will work any better with the newer drivers.
