Country keyboard indicator (fbxkb-0.4) |
|
If someone else posted the file before, I deeply apologize, but since I did not find a pet for this and I compiled from source, I thought of sharing this with anyone else interested in multilingual keyboard layouts.
This is version 0.4. I tested in Puppy 2.17 and Dingo and it works. The only thing I did not do (it needs to be done by hand) was to
automate .xinitrc editing if you want to autostart at bootup. If anyone
would like to contribute a script to add "fbxkb &" just before JWM start
please do so.
Edit: Works on 2.17 (minor error message), PupEee (Puppy 3) & DingoPlus (Puppy 4). Does not work on 2.14R

Thank you very much I've been looking for this for a long time! I'm running frugal MediaPup right now which is basically 4.1.2. Could you please post exactly what I must write where to have it start at bootup?

There is also a program called fookb which doesn't need GTK. It can run as a DockApp also.

After installing the pet file, you will have to edit .xinitrc (hidden in your root folder) go to the bottom of the file and just prior to the final block (I think there is a blanc line distinguishing it) that calls JWM you will have to add the line:
After restarting X you will see an icon in the taskbar. Not to forget, so that everything goes smoothly, I imagine that you must already have your multiple keyboard layout defined via xorg.conf direct editing or .xinitrc editing or via the keyboard wizard...

i use fbxkb for a long time
it can be swallowed by jwm tray like blinky
or you can just put a symlink into /root/Startup and it will start automatically

Do you have any clue why it does not work on 2.14R? It is included
by default in 2.14R but trying to start it all one gets is an error message...

Running well on Puppy511 !
jwm

Later lucid 0.6 ones gave me
bash-3.00# ./fbxkb
xkb group #0 is already defined
kbd group numbering is not continous
run 'xlsatoms | grep pc' to know what hapends
So there is trouble inside the newer code

+1 for this being standard in Puppy
its all I need without going into SCIM
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HowToChangeAddKeyboardLayout
Anyone successfully added SCIM to Slacko?
BTW I assume the PET in this thread doesn't include a symlink to the startup folder?

pressing Ctrl and Space brings up SCIM bar (when cursor is activate), so SCIM working, but the keyboard icon doesn't show on the panel when I open a program, geany for example?
