How to uninstall Puppy?

#1 Post by DaComboMan »

Well, actually my question is two-fold.

If i install EasyBCD, is it possible to remove installed version of PuppyLinux ?

I didn't choose the right option for the monitor (screen) and can't find the option to change it. I don't want to install it that way.

:D Hello,
I didn't choose the right option for the monitor (screen) and can't find the option to change it. I don't want to install it that way.
From the Puppy desktop do:
"ctrl-alt-bkspce" to drop to a console where you type "xorgwizard" and hit enter..
Follow the instructions to select your proper resolution..
Without knowing what type of install you chose, I cannot address the other question...
Close the Windows, and open your eyes, to a whole new world

Wow! Puppyluvr!
You caught me off guard.
Wasn't expecting such a fast answer! :)

Okay, i'm thinking about full install via CD.
Last time i dabbed with Linux was openSUSE's latest.
Their Grub apparatus made EasyBCD useless so i had no other option than to do full Windows install. Don't want to do that again.

If Puppy's Windows installer is same as WUBI then perhaps that might be just as good?

:D Hello,
Ok, heres the thing about Puppy:
Puppies will live anywhere..
I do not recommend a traditional install, overtaking a partition, and destroying the security, and durability, of your Puppy. Rather I highly recommend a "Frugal" install, and the installation of your favorite, or existing, bootmanager, IE Grub, Grub2, Grub4Dos, Lilo, etc. I have used "legacy" Grub, the original, for years, with no trouble at all, ever...
Frugal installs are portable, backupable, adaptable, and just plain easier... The only drawback is the kernel cant be updated.. A small sacrifice.
I have 26... My Grub menu has been called "frankengrub". LOL...
Look into frugal installs, you wont be sorry...

Edit:
I see the point is the Puppy Windows installer, which Ive never used..
See, I dont use Winblows, so I never needed it.
I have a 7 Ultimate install..
We use it to play "Angry Birds".. Thats it..

Puppies are cute (as long as they're not 5 of them barking 24h/day in your neighborhood)!

I found a link to frugal install on this thread but the link leads you to a non existing page.

Did find a full "frugal" install tutorial on Youtube but it didn't seem to mention anything about a "legacy" Grub that you speak of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxVOH3mo ... plpp_video

Hi DaComboMan

I've redirected the broken link on that post, if it was the one below:
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/HardDriveInstall

That post is quite old now.

I found Unetbootin easier than EasyBCD on Vista - but it should work on Windows 7. See the thread below-
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=50152

It Puppy should be easy to remove, just a case of deleting a few files and removing the boot menu option.

:P

Was the video link i gave no longer valid?

Anyway, me make booboo in following his directives (forgot to create partition table first). Try to correct after (too late!) and somehow, ended up wiping off the whole disk (with Windows 7) and thus ended up re-installing it. Breath!

Puppy feels so much faster (but installation process a bit complicated if i follow your directives). Can't ask too much from someone who's got a grade 12 diploma!

Making a partition table blanks the drive.

There should have been one already if you had partitions on the drive.

I'm sorry to hear about the unnecessary wipe, then.

I may have clicked to fast!

Had two NTFS partitions (normal) + one unallocated i intended to use for Puppy.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an "undo" option once you've selected the "create partition" one. Did i inadvertently select the principal NTFS partition (or does "create partition" simply wipe everything out?).

I'm leery to try again at this time.

Well, to follow up on my latest experience...

Installed Puppy with Windows installer.
It went as expected (just like install via CD) until i tried to save data (which i read was something not to do). Guess we'll have to study the matter a bit more.

You need to provide more detailed information. Is Puppy now listed on your hard drive boot menu? Does it start successfully?

Are you talking about the step where you create a savefile? Are you trying to create it in the NTFS Windows partition? Lots of people do this.

Do you have unused spaced on your hard drive that could become a dedicated Puppy partition?

@rcrsn51

Yes, i can create as many partitions as needed.
I have Easus, an excellent program for that.

Yup, tried to create "savefile" on NTFS Windows.

If i'm not mistaken, it would seem proper to first create a new "unallocated" partition and install Puppy there. Then to create that much desired "savefile" to save to right?

Was no longer able to sign into that start-up part of the login options.
Or rather, i could, but it would be a dead end street as the program would try to resolve some issues.

puppyluvr,
I had found Angry Birds and installed it under wine.
It works fine with wine BTW.
I may still have the installer too.
