How to bring up the JWM menu without a mouse? |
|
Is there a key to press to bring up the menu in JWM (Slacko 533)? I'm trying to minimise mouse use.

F12 normally does this.

Hi,
Although I'm using Slacko 5.3.1 you may find your version of Slacko to be very similar.
If you navigate to /root/,etc/xdg/templates hopefully you will see a file "_root_.jwmrc" if so right click then open it as text then scroll down to the bottom and, with luck, it will look similar to my screenshot below.
Line 189 is what you need, so that Alt+a will bring up your menu.
On Line 187 Alt+z is easier to reach than Alt+F4 which will still be available.
Make as I have then save and let us know.
My regards
Added:
F12 works for me as well - I either didn't know that or I'd totally forgotten it.

Thanks- having read the replies, I tried alt+F1, that works, and just plain F12 does too. They'll do for now, I'll set up another later.

As far as I know its the original poster's responsibility to edit their first post and alter title by prefixing with [Solved]

You could also use Mouse_keys. It is a builtin function in X, letting you use the numeric keys to move the cursor.
- Klick Shift+NumLock to activate
- Some keyboards requires Alt-Shift+NumLock to activate
- Use the numeric keys to move the cursor
- Klick Shift+NumLock, or Alt-Shift+NumLock, to deactivate

The alt+F1 and F12 shortcuts don't seem to work for me when windows are minimized (in Slacko 5.5 on IBM Thinkpad T42 trying to avoid touchpad). For example:
-On boot they both work fine.
-Open Firefox and they work fine bringing up the menu over the program window.
-Minimize Firefox and neither works.
Not sure if this is expected behaviour, a bug or some sort of feature?
Paul
EDIT: If at least one program window is not minimized it works as above. If all windows are minimized it doesn't work even when switching to an empty workspace.
Not a big issue but might be an easy fix

I am finding the same behavior in Wary 5.5 Further, while Alt+F1 works when no apps are minimized, I cannot get Alt+F12 to do anything as has been reported as working for Racy.
