greengeek wrote:Thx. Just looking at the screenshot in your last post - I see the "2.5" in the bottom left corner. Is that a replacement for the "puppy face" shortcut that you had at top left on the B2 release?

I was going to ask you how hard it might be to put a "desktop" shortcut at bottom left - If I have multiple windows open I find it a bit slow to have to minimise every window before I can see the wbar.
Yes the 2.5 is there so that I don't get confused of what version I'm in.
The Final will probably say "menu" or just have some symbol.

I will see what I can do for the show desktop... I am not sure if tint2 has that feature, or if the command is separate from the panel. But if I can find it, I can put an icon to the right of the tint2 panel.

Nice! Can I get your .configure options for it? I want to try compiling the latest SVN release.

Nothing fancy in the configure options that I remember, think it was just --prefix=/usr

Thanks, Billtoo.

I'll upload Mplayer later ... about to head off to work now.

EDIT: it's now been uploaded, I just changed the ending to "w5" instead of "i686".

Okay I found the Openbox shortcut keys for ToggleShowDesktop is:

Windows Key+d

I will incorporate this function into the tint2 Taskbar in the next release.

I quite like the puppy face you used in B2 (along with the "2.5" aswell maybe...) rather than the word "menu". Just my personal pref.

The only problem with that is, if I use the puppy face, I cannot get it to line up with the tint2 taskbar on the bottom...otherwise, I would use it.
I can set up 2 different .desktop files for the same function if you like... one
with the logo and one without. Then you can drag whichever one you prefer to the desktop.

Attached is the pet that will add the ToggleShowDesktop function to the tint2 panel.

I think just go with whichever one you find is best - no point going to the trouble of extra .files
(Although the menu/puppyface icon does not necessarily need to go next to the taskbar - it's just as easy to rightclick the little piece of desktop that is visible there... I just thought the puppyface looked quite good at top left)

Thanks for the .pet.

I agree. I just put that icon there for those who are used to left-clicking for the menu. When I first used tint2, I felt right-clicking was awkward, but now I am very used to it.

Solidpup 511-B Lite beta-2.6 has just been uploaded.

Left-click on the tint2 clock to toggle ShowDesktop, right-click on the tint2 clock to adjust clock settings.

This version looks pretty much the same as beta 2.5 but it contains updated backend libraries, mainly audio-video codecs but others as well. A link to the full list of changes is on the first post.

These upgrades increased the size of the iso, so to compensate, I had to remove deadbeef, tuiliana desktop icon theme, and 1 mouse cursor theme. I will reintegrate them in the full-version. Mplayer is the default audio player now.

I have also compiled ffmpeg_hwa pet. It has x11grab and hardware acceleration (hwa) enabled. It will work out of the box for version beta-2.6. Older versions will need dependency pets to be installed before it will work.

ffmpeg_hwa can be found at: http://www.smokey01.com/Tman/apps/Wary5 ... ultimedia/

To test x11grab, install the pet, then in type the following in the terminal: sh record_av
This command will only work in this current release or higher.

EDIT: thanks to Pemasu for the tips on compiling ffmpeg.

My next task is to recompile MPlayer_gui to work with the new ffmpeg ... so far I can only get it to compile without the gui :(.
If all else fails, I can try a different front-end like smplayer, or Gnome-Mplayer.

Hi Tman

SolidPup, version 511 on Mon 1 Oct 2012

Chip description:
2.0 VGA compatible controller
Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device (rev 02)
oem: Intel(r)852MG/852MGE/855MG/855MGE Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA BIOS

X Server: Xorg
Driver used: intel

X.Org version: 1.3.0
dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (270x203 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

Very nicely done Puppy - if fact outstanding all round. Excellent attention to detail.
Running extremely well on my 10yr old Acer laptop. Manual frugal to sda - no save_file.

Touchpad a tad sensitive, twiddled and improved, however a bit more twiddling may be reqd.
Thanks for making an already superb SolidPup even better.

Very best regards - Ray

Solidpup511-B beta-2.7 has now been uploaded.

This includes the replacement of the old ffmpeg with version 0.11.2
MPlayer_gui is updated to the latest release from svn.

xsoldier is has been removed to save space.

I also modified the record_av script and added a menu item for it in the multimedia menu,
named ffmpeg-x11grab.

zenn should be pleased that MPlayer is more compatible with .mkv files.
Becuase the old ffmpeg is out, this breaks ttuuxxx's VLC pet.

EDIT: But that VLC is also less compatible with .mkv files, (some mkv formats will play). If you want to use that VLC, then you need to reinstall the old ffmpeg pet.
Needed multimedia files are at:
http://www.smokey01.com/Tman/apps/Wary5 ... ULTIMEDIA/

As usual, the download link for the new Solidpup is in the first post of this thread.

Thanks Tote, I'm glad you like it.

Ray MK,

If the "Touchpad Settings" still doesn't give you sensitive enough touchpad, you can try adjusting the mouse sensitivity further with pupx.

I set my "Acceleration" to 1.4 and my "Threshold" to 8

That works well for my mouse.

I just learnt how to do a manual frugal install. Beta 2.7.

SolidPup, version 511 on Tue 9 Oct 2012

Chip description:
2.0 VGA compatible controller
Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)
oem: Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics Chip Accelerated VGA BIOS
product: Intel(r)845G/845GL/845GE/845GV Graphics Controller Hardware Version 0.0

X Server: Xorg
Driver used: intel

X.Org version: 1.3.0
dimensions: 1024x768 pixels (312x234 millimeters)
depth of root window: 24 planes

.mkv files that I have still don't play. Rather than make this a huge issue (as this may be an isolated case to me) and take up your precious time, I'll PM you a link to a .mkv file you can download to test at your own leisure.

I like the fact that SolidPup uses a SMP kernel. One day, if I can find the necessary working parts, I might fire it up on an old dual P3 and see how fast can this puppy run. :D

Hi Timan;
I considered Puppy as the best small Linux distro and Solidpup as the best Puppy distro. :-)
My first time to experience Puppy which I don't have to do anything to compatible with Thai language. Besides it does not show wrong cursor movement when typing with Thai font, and Pfind can find Thai files. Both features cannot be found in other Puppies. Should I suspect that Timan=T(ha)iman? hehehehe
But I have missed some cool games from Wary, xSoldier, Afternoon Stalker. :-(
Many pets from other Puppies can also be installed in SolidPup, cinelerra-4.1-i686-dpup.pet, gimp-2.6.8-i686-dpup.pet, Seamonkey-2.0.4-Lucid.pet, Wine-1.1.43-Lucid.pet, testdisk.pet etc.
But it's a pity that gnome-games-Lite_2-dpup.pet can't be installed.

I have found some bugs to report;
1. Some GTK theme, BlackPup SP and TalePup Sp, make FFconvert preset menu unseen.
And after applying GTK the rox-filer will be closed.
2. Geany has no icon in the Task bar, and it can appear in all workspaces.
3. Some pets do not work, CPU Scaling, Zsnes Emulator ( I don't have joystick).
4. Some of my pictures can't used as Background.
5. Openbox config (from Menu) has some problems.
6. I set browser Flock in Prefer App, but it can't run.

I run Puppy with IBM Thinkcentre, P4 2.66, 1Gig Ram-Bus 333, Intel graphic onboard

Thnak you for your wonderful Puppy

My people are somebody who will move to crowded city because I have promised them the refuge in the big UFO station.
Now I'd found at least 5 aliens who live in Thailand. They are from Triangular constellation.

No, I am Vietnamese. I can't take credit for the Thai font.. just lucky I guess. I go by my middle name in this forum, which is Van. When you mix Tman around, it spells my first name (phonetically).
By coincidence it also spells namT. nam=vietnam, T=First letter in my name. Also Tman: T= First letter of my name, and "man" because I am male... although when my wife gets angry, she calls me a little boy...
I don't mind that because I am a kid at heart, and wish to stay that way. But she also sometimes calls me a woman..
But I have missed some cool games from Wary, xSoldier, Afternoon Stalker.
I will put XSoldier into the Full (non-Lite) version. You can most likely find Afternoon Stalker in one of the repositories ... I am guessing the Puppy4 repo.
But it's a pity that gnome-games-Lite_2-dpup.pet can't be installed.
I've never tried it, but it may just need the right dependencies..run the command from the terminal and see what error messages you get.
1. Some GTK theme, BlackPup SP and TalePup Sp, make FFconvert preset menu unseen.
Luckily, I have upgraded to FFConvert 1.3 and the presets are visible with those themes. it's been over a year since I worked on those themes...but I did the best I could at the time. I might take a look at them and try to improve them some more, but it's not really high on my priority list...there are so many other themes you can download. I have chosen themes that are small, but look nice. I have even nicer themes, but I did not include them because of size.
And after applying GTK the rox-filer will be closed.
You mean that you need to reopen ROX becuase the color scheme changed? ...yes that's a bug I haven't managed to solve.
2. Geany has no icon in the Task bar, and it can appear in all workspaces.
. That's just how Geany behaves by default in all pups that I've tried...and I wouldn't know how to change it.
3. Some pets do not work, CPU Scaling, Zsnes Emulator ( I don't have joystick).
For CPU Scaling, try setting the processor to "P4 clockmod". You may have to alter the frequency settings to get it to work properly, but I've done it on a P4...EDIT: correction - it didn't scale automatically for me, it only changed the CPU frequency and left it at that frequency.
For Zsnes, you can configure the keys for keyboard use from Config->Input->Set Keys. It should be run with Mesa driver or Nvidia driver for smoother playback. I've had no problems with it on my desktop, but it wouldn't run when I was over at my dad's place and tried it on his old P4 laptop. I will recompile it and see if it makes any difference.
4. Some of my pictures can't used as Background.
Yes I have that problem too..but no solution. :( There's something about certain images that the wallpaper setter doesn't like, but I have not narrowed it down to anything specific.
5. Openbox config (from Menu) has some problems.
Doh! I thought I removed it.
6. I set browser Flock in Prefer App, but it can't run.
I've never tried flock, but I will see if I can compile it for Solidpup

As much as I like the comments such as "Fantastic Puppy, great work" etc... bugs reports are much appreciated, as it brings to my attention what I may have missed, so thank you very much.

Okay, I don't think there is a Flock source code, but I did find a tarball containing the Flock-2.61 pre-compiled binaries. I converted the files into a pet similiar to the way I created my Firefox-official pets. Flock can be downloaded from:
http://www.smokey01.com/Tman/apps/Commo ... _BROWSERS/

I will be moving a lot of my web browser pets to this folder, once I reconfigure GetPackage to link with the new download location.

You will need to adjust wbar settings for flock to either "defaultbrowser" or "flock" for it not to display my custom search page.
