Is there a Puppy whch can be booted on an iMac or eMac ???
Can anyone provide to me, or, steer me to "how to boot a PUP on an iMac or eMac"?
I have been given both. And would like to setup to donate to several kids for upcoming holidays.
Thanks in advance for any contributions

Intel or PowerPC iMacs?
We've got someone working on a PowerPC port of Puppy, but it's not running yet. So at the very least, your eMacs will not be running Puppy.
These links might be useful to you:

There is also an Ubuntu port for the PowerPC but we don't recommend Ubuntu around here because it's fat and sluggish -- Linux is supposed to work well, not sit around the house taking up space!

I'm sorry that I didn't share that for it is IMPORTANT to note. It a PowerPC G4 for each MAC system. And each has 768MB RAM.starhawk wrote:Intel or PowerPC iMacs?

Questions ... So,
- Is there a BIOS --like step that is needed?
- Does it recognize CD/DVD boots?
- Must I use a USB device and if so, what FS must be present on the USB?
Thanks in advance for any info on how to go about this.
Put Puppy on an iMac or eMac ???

I guess if I found one in a dumpster like I did this desktop I am posting with. I would bite the bullet and install
http://www.mintppc.org/content/installa ... mintppc-11
till something better comes along.

Hi Billtoo,
If wanting some tools to run in Debian for looking at hardware. A lightweight script I run is inxi.
http://code.google.com/p/inxi/
http://code.google.com/p/inxi/wiki/Installation
It might help with looking into details on your soundcard chip on that ppc and I run inxi in all my Distro installs from Puppy to Slackware. It will drop right into Debian also. It is only a script so it is very lightweight install also.
Run
for a list of options that can be used and
for a hardware check and see what inxi recommends you install to get stuff working better. This install is pretty new still so I have not got around yet to installing glx and mesa yet. Not a big priority for me .
Edit:
with Puppy (MacPup 529) on it.

Thanks for the info, I did get sound working using a usb sound card, I will give your script a try and see if I can get the internal sound working.
It would save me some bucks because I swiped the usb sound card off my intel mac which is running slacko 5365 and I don't really want to buy another one.
EDIT: here's a screenshot, it's working well, thanks again.
