PostPosted: Sun 14 Oct 2012, 08:45    Post subject:  Hacking audio Gmplayer and FF together? [Solved]

Most likely it is an addon that save music files on youtube.
I started an older Lupu that did not have it and that solved it.
No hacking anymore. So thanks for all help.

I use a Netbook Acer D255 N540 CPU but only 1GB
and lupu 528-005 latest standard Firefox 16.0.01

Suppose I play a music video or even a MP3 on
GMPlayer from a youtube clip and then start up FF
and look at a local Tabloid page.

Each time I change to a new page or text or whatever the
audio hack or have short silence and loving the music that
becomes annoying.

My current solution is to start another computer and play the music
on that one but seems like over kill to me.

So if any of you have a better solution do suggest it.

Hi Nooby,
I do not have such a netbook from what i understand they are not very powerful - possibly starting firefox as well as watching videos etc is causing 100% cpu usage spike resulting in some lag?
Maybe try playing media files with just mplayer - open a terminal and use command: mplayer /directory/path/to/media-file

Yes I trust that it is spikes from the plugin-container on FF that cause it.

If I use Iron a Chrome variant then that one don't have same plugins
so it usually only hack once instead of each update of a page with ads.

The bad things is that Iron don't have the login to forums on it
and no bookmarks so it not so practical to use.

But I doubt this recommendation unless I misunderstand it?

mplayer /directory/path/to/media-file

would that really not send spikes of CPU usage

The FF itself take only 17% of the CPU so no problem there.
it is when they update their page with ads and when I change page
or go into text or scroll?

Very annoying so I guess until I have a 100% sure solution
I will have two computers going.

Don't have any problem using forum, watching downloaded
video in mplayer, and listening to bbc stream at same time,
on my msi netbook with n270 cpu.

Lupu 528-005 and seamonkey.

Seamonkey maybe don't have same addons?

I have NoScript and that one maybe is demanding?
I also have two different flash addons. So maybe
that explains it?

One solution would be to use
two different setups of Lupu where one have what
I mention about and another without these?

Seamonkey? You are a tolerant guy then. I can't stand using it Smile

These little netbooks are quite a bit more powerful than the laptop I normally use, and my machine runs most stuff fine. It may be nothing to do with it, but most of the problems I have come up against when running flash videos (freezes, slow-downs, CPU loading) have ended up being something to do with alsa (some module conflict with flash probably), and never anything to do with adobe flash version. Such module conflicts may well result in heavy CPU loads.

Anyway, may well not be the cause of your problem but nevertheless perhaps worth trying out the suggestion in the following link: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=650486&search_id=1521260311#650486

Won't do any harm anyway.

Thanks I will use it as a last resort because
I have set up a audio recorder so I don't want to
change anything with the audio.

I think I will try instead to use Slacko
and seamonkey to see if that one have same problem.

I only have to get to it that I should save all the bookmarks
and the passwords so I can reuse these on Seamonkey from FF.

Hi Nooby,

Mplayer uses a little less ram and cpu compared to gnome-mplayer - but if nothing is been maxed out them maybe it wouldn't make much difference, it would still however be worth try if for no other reason than process of elimination.

Are you running any kind of add blocking ? i don't use any kind of browser based add blocking instead i use the Pup-Advert-Blocker that is installed on most puppies.

Im no media codec expert but i think local media stored on your pc/netbook even flash format does not use the flash player plugin that is used for web browsers as you can play local .flv format files with mplayer/gnome-mplayer with no flash plugin installed.

If chrome and iron browser work ok at the same time as you play your media then maybe it is some problem with the version of firefox you have installed - i haven't used firfox for a long time so i do not know about it, which version is the latest etc.
Have you tried using Opera web browser it has bookmarks, add-ons and logs in ok for me - you can try Opera next with out installing it.
http://snapshot.opera.com/unix/solo_12.10-1620/opera-next-12.10-1620.i386.linux.tar.xz
click on the doenload to extract it the click on the opera-next script to run it - the benifit of this is you do not need to keep Opera in your save file so can run the same browser / setup across all your puppy installs.

Thanks,

Here is one solution maybe.
I had a FatDog 64 one of teh latest versions.
and it had FF13 instead of FF16 and no kind of
Ad blocking. So I installed Password exporter 1.2 on it
and that allow me to use same forums as on lupu 528
and same Bookmarks export import

and everything looks like I am used to.

But it had VLC instead of The gmplayer that Lupu has
and that one did not hack the sound. Never ever whatever I do.

Big surprise.

Thanks for telling me of that ad blocker. Did not new about it.

Will be interesting to see if that one block audio then Smile

How does one activate that adblocker then Smile
I have no idea. I give it a try. If that works then
I set it as solved.

FatDog did not have that Pup-Advert-Blocker
so I asked them about it. I failed to get to their PPM
I test thinslacko now and see what happens there.

Stu I have no idea how that ad blocker works.
I have it installed on ThinSlacko but it does not stop
that ad up right in Murga forum or on Tabloids

oops FF 3.6.28 in my Thin Slacko. That is not good is it?

How did you tweak it which of the five different services did you use?

ThinkSlack use pmusic on mp3 and that did not hack.
And it does not hack the sound on video clips either.
so that is good.

Is Think Slacko or FatDog best? Smile I have no idea.

On Pup ad blocker I click ALL four options, nothing like being sure.

Select them all; tick start, let it load, it takes a few seconds, then it's good to go. Very Happy

Hehe I am too chicken to be that bold obviously.
I thought one where only allowed to check on of these.

I am in an older Lupu I had with older FF now
and that one had not one of the addon that most likely
causes the hacking audio. Don't remember the name.

Could be that one that cause it. So will restart into that new lupu
then when I need to save a Video clip. And use this one 24/7
instead. Smile
