Nice Piece Of Work |
|
Finally getting around to testing out Wheezy...
Very nice job pemasu!
The only fault I can find so far is the 'Weather Icons' do not show up in pwidgets... same thing in Slacko-5.3.5.3... haven't tested this area in the latest Precise but it wouldn't surprize me if they didn't show there also as 'I believe' this may be a thing with latest woof which these versions were all most likely built from.
Again... very nice job!!!!

No kidding. After hunting through all the problems in 352, I finally downloaded 3521 and saw your fixes.
However there are still some things missing.
1. CUPS doesn't detect networked printers. But it will after "modprobe ipv6".
[Edit] The alternative is to get /usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp from Precise.
2. Gutenprint is missing half its stuff. I expect that there is a Debian package called "Gutenprint-CUPS" that has the rest.
[Edit] The missing Gutenprint package is here.
For testers, here is a PET that provides the missing components.

rcrsn51. Thank you of the CUPS feedback. Good that even something in CUPS is usable. I will check the Gutenprint part at some time. I will also create another experimental build. But not quite yet. I am bit busy with real life.

A little tip (for what it is worth!), I think that some reference was made in Barry's blog not long ago, about some Debian/Ubuntu stuff not kept in their usual paths, it may have been related to Precise Puppy. I just skimmed he text, so I cannot tell you if it was related, but it may be!
Anyone?

Edit:
It seems I was reading the first page in this thread without realizing there where more pages , so please excuse me if this is totally irrelevant now!

Wheezy is missing the ntfsprogs package (ntfsclone, ntfsfix, etc). When you run Gparted, it shows NTFS partitions with a warning symbol.

I suppose that copying /lib/modules/all-firmware/ipw2200_firmware-3.0/lib/firmware folder content ie those firmwares to the /lib/firmware might help.
That would be my first suggestion. For some reason the firmwares are not found from where they are in Puppies. And now I should have that /all-firmware folder structure right. I messed them up in other dpup build... |
Just wanted to say thanks for that hint. I've put an Intel 2200BG card in an old Dell Latitude X300, and am booting a derivative based on Saluki 022. Copying the firmware files over got the wireless working. So, again, thanks.
(Now if I could just get the thing to update the nameserver properly, all would be well.)

Broadcomm driver. |
|
hi,
I can't connect to my router with wheezy using wl driver.
The problem seems to relate to wpa encription
# iwconfig wlan0 key 0123456789ABC
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument4
In trying to compile wl using hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_112.tar.gz
it fails in /drivers/wl/sys/wl_linux.c
regards tony.

Hi tony
The wl driver is built-in to wheezy so there should be no need to compile it....don't know where you got that source from but there have been quite a few patches needed to compile it on later kernels - and Wheezy has a very modern kernel....but pemasu was able to compile it just fine.
See: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=76495&start=16
WL works fine on my system under Wheezy using wpa encryption and Frisbee. Posting from Wheezy over wifi now. Are you using Frisbee? Is there anything out of the ordinary about your wifi setup?
You could try updating Wheezy with the latest rerwin initialistion logic:
http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?mode=attach&id=59481
If you continue having problems suggest you post dmesg output or pmodemdiag output.
Cheers

Radeon KMS |
|
Hello Pemasu
Quote: | It might be that I should enable KMS at kernel compile level for radeon. |
The important thing is to enable radeon KMS in DRM when compiling the kernel since it can't be enabled later. KMS in radeon.ko can be enabled or disabled via the radeon.modeset= parameter or in radeon.conf.
Your DOTconfigs for 3.5.2 and 3.6.2 have:
Code: | # CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS is not set |
So radeon KMS will not work properly with these kernels.
BarryK did enable this in later Precise versions, and radeon KMS works properly.
The only issue that I found was that the VESA driver segfaults if radeon.modeset=1 but is OK if radeon.modeset=0. But you wouldn't normally use VESA with a radeon card when there are proper radeon DRI drivers for cards from the last 15 years.
The radeon kernel configuration details are in the Xorg wiki here:
http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo#Important_Linux_kernel_config_parameters_to_enable_radeon-KMS

LateAdopter. Thanks. I have updated in silence also wheezy. I suppose I will update the kernel also. Radeon KMS set default on....is ok. You can disable it with kernel boot parameter when needed.
Main problem for me is that xorgwizard is not compliant with the xorg version in wheezy. And my abilities are not enough to fix it. I have already one non working command/parameter in xorgwizard, but it does not help much. The xorgwizard should be modified for working correctly.
I created new wheezy couple of days ago....with packages which are now in wheezy deb database. It works and boot to X, loads my drivers and so on. I have implemented the CUPS fixes from this thread.
I probably compile 3.6.X kernel for wheezy. At some time...and I follow when wheezy has the deb database completed and official wheezy is out.
Next thing would be to test firmware loading. I unfortunately dont have any wireless which would need firmware from all-firmware. I need to think from where I can get one.....

Wheezy |
|
Quick update !!!
Wheezy still working great, very responsive and stable.
Only a few problems so far...
Google Earth from the PPM doesn't seem to build a package and no menu entry is created?
Pwidgets 2.4.0 work nice EXCEPT for the NO WEATHER ICONS showing up (anyone have a suggestion or fix for this?)
EDIT: (Dec 23 2012) Installing the new Pwidgets-2.4.1 takes care of the icon problem and Pwidgets works as it should!
