USB2 & USB3 on new PCs |
|
Can any of our hardware specialist explain why vendors are including USB2 on newer boards with USB3?
Is there any known problems either in USB standards or in problems with chipset/motherboard processing power?
Help if you can.

Hi gcmartin,
It could be the lack of USB3 drivers in earlier software.

Just a guess, but since USB3 is still new, the components used still cost more. Once is is more widely used price will come down and it will become default.
The other reason is USB3 can supply A LOT more power which most things don't need. If all ports were USB3 then the power supply and board layout would have to handle the MAX possible usage, again increasing cost.

That is a great answer! Awhile back I wondered if a PC needed a hard drive. I found an answer, and basically YES they seem to still need HDD's because of "power supply loading." Here's something from Tom's:

***** Downloaded Carolina 003 tonight. I hope Elroy/Geoffrey keeps it as fast as Saluki is/was.
