This is a likely cause of the non-reproducible bug reports. @Barry, didn't you have a gecko edubook? That would be a good test box for this.
Edit: at 1 point choosing PAE in the kernel config also enabled some cmov instructions that prevented booting on these cpus, though IDK if it is still the case. |
Actually, I had two of those Geckos. I gave one to a NGO charity organisation in India. The other just stopped working one day, completely dead.
Interesting, same thing happened to the Intel Classmate mini laptops. I had two of those also, also gave one to the India charity, and the other also went dead one one day.
The only thing I have left that is pre-Pentium is my old PC with Cyrix 6x86 CPU. But that is currently in a friend's backyard shed.
I had to make some pretty tough decisions when I sold my house at Perenjori, got rid of so much stuff. But, at least I did keep some old hardware, in storage until one day when I settle somewhere permanent. ...which probably will happen mid-2013.

Once upon a time (version 1.04) I have used it much.
But now it seems to have disappeared |
Yes, that was a long time ago. If I recall rightly, there were two of them, one was written in tcl/tk, the other gtk1.2.
Which was why we had to leave them behind.

I think that John Murga has made changes to the Forum recently. It keeps on logging me out. Anyone else got this problem?

Yes, I've been "auto" logged out sometimes recently. I thought it was my mistakes; but I couldn't think what I'd done.
My regards
and thanks

While I appreciate the inclusion of YASSM and Network, I expect that many users will miss Pnethood if it has been working for them. |
Regarding epdfview, see my blog post:

Regarding Pnethood, yes, good point. I have reinstated it.

From the forum FAQ
Quote: | Why do I get logged off automatically?
If you do not check the Log me in automatically box when you log in, the board will only keep you logged in for a preset time. This prevents misuse of your account by anyone else. To stay logged in, check the box during login. This is not recommended if you access the board from a shared computer, e.g. library, internet cafe, university cluster, etc. |

Firewall Status does not show in tray (taskbar).
I find this program useful to me.
I assume you did not include it in Precise for a reason.

Make sure your PC's clock/time [including the year] is reading the correct value.
If it's wrong, the [time limited] cookie will time out and log you off.

The z_epdfview_fix_precise-20121106.pet works correctly for me, both to screen and printer.

Remember that Pnethood required the older version of nbtscan to work correctly, as discussed here.

Precise Puppy 5.4.0.90 works fine on my Pentium II 266 with 768MB.
Using the frugal mode on a 2GB hard disk.
The 'z_epdfview_fix_precise-20121106.pet' works fine too.

Tray missing |
|
I am using retroprecise installed on usb and it has been working well until today. Tray is missing except for section with "menu" and "show desktop" icons. System icons in lower right are missing and minimized apps disappear. Tray does not extend across bottom of screen - only displays in lower left corner. Also, yesterday I tried adding panel button with jwm panel button configuring tool, but they never appeared in the tray.
Any suggestions?

Also gio has problems using modules. It's a glib bug and affects some other distros as well.

I have recompiled glib from original sources and that fixes the module loading problem.

Testing precise 5.4.0.90.
Looks like the session saving problem is solved, I'm unable to reproduce it now.
Problems with gdb and gio modules persist.
I'll continue testing and report back more.
