This is the static version of the excellent DeaDBeeF audio player, assembled as a .PET for ease of installation.

It should run in most Puppies though take note it is i686 build. It is designed primarily for use in Slacko Puppies based on Slackware 14.0 and with ffmpeg version 0.11.x or later.

DeaDBeeF will not compile from source with ffmpeg support in these Slackos, so this is a solution (I think) which offers WMA playback, mms support and other functions which depend on ffmpeg. It is larger than the compiled versions though.

All plugins that work are included, all plugins that give errors (pulse, gtk-3, etc) have been removed.

DeaDBeeF Static 0.5.6 i686 .pet

Deadbeef 0.5 started to behave bitchy with that libiconv dependency Evil or Very Mad , 1.4 mb useless addition.
0.4 was much better Crying or Very sad

The 0.4 versions did not play some of the common stream formats out of the box. This version 0.5.6 does everything I need and I like the GUI. For me it is the best audio player.

In fact the versions for Wary / Racy and Slacko 5.3.3 do not need libiconv at all and with Pemasu's work-around the Precise version (which I have also now added to the first post) does not need libiconv to run, only to build. It is a pain when it crops up in other Puppies though.

Thank you for this. The Wary pet works perfectly to me in Precise as well. I haven't tried the Precise-optimized build yet.
