How to tell my Puppy version?

#1 Post by conservativetroll »

A neighbour who is a member of a loco here in Phoenix installed my puppy. I really like it but whatever version it is, it tends to be rather fragile. Kind of wonky. It's okay for a while, then not, okay then not.

It's on an older but still serviceable HP, He also installed ubuntu. We tried mint, but the machine didn't have enough horsepower. It is an HP Pavillion dv8000

any answers, my neighbor has been very very generous with this time. Don't want to pester him every time i develop an issue,

Want a version that is a little more stable. However Todd installed lots of stuff that runs reasonably well. It might be 5.2.8 but i'm not sure!!

HOW DO I FIND THE VERSION of Puppy?? (caps only for visibility) this turned into a bit of a ramble, sorry

G'day,

There should be a comprehensive listing of version details in a text file called "DISTRO_SPECS" in the /etc directory.

Let us know if this is not what you want to know.

Open the console (terminal) and type in: uname -a. The response should tell you the Puppy version, followed by the kernel version.
Then you should type in: exit
This will close the terminal in the best-practice way.
