Is it possible to move from a frugal to full install?

I have some files in my Puppy Linux partition I want to access with my Ubuntu partition, but since I have a frugal install I cannot access them as I would if it were full. So I have two questions: 1. Is it possible to move from a frugal to a full install? 2. Will GRUB4DOS or other boot loader work fine if I were to use a full install rather than a frugal install? Thanks in advance! |

Yes. You will be starting over fresh with a full install. It will have to be installed to it's own Linux formatted partition. Can not be put on same partition Ubuntu is on. Boot loaders will work fine. You just need to rerun the boot loader config, so an entry for the Puppy full install is made. If all you need Ubuntu to see is some type of data file that is in a frugal installed Puppy. While running Puppy. Any file placed in /mnt/home is outside the Puppy save file. Does this mean that if I change to a full install all my data will be gone? I just want to make /mnt/home become the new Puppy Linux root, if that is possible. |

I think you could load frugal and copy all the stuff from mnt/home to an external folder. You could then instal Puppy and copy the stuff back or possible make that folder the new root. _________________ I can't remember the last time I forgot something! |

Just move the frugal install to the partition Ubuntu is on. A frugal install of Puppy is just 4 files usually in a directory named something to do with version of Puppy. Like /pupy528. If you do this you will have to reconfigure the bootloader to make entry to boot the frugal install from the new location. So you can keep it. All this will do to the Ubuntu partition is install files to it. Just takes up space.
Not a good idea to try. /mnt/home is not in the Puppy normal filesystem and root is used for very specific vital data storage in normal operation of Puppy. There are a lot of hidden files in the root directory. In a Puppy frugal install: /mnt/home is the top layer of the partition the frugal install is on. Basically it is a storage location outside the Puppy filesystem. Example: Below is /mnt/home of one of my partitions. The Puppy frugal install is in the directory precise54.
