How and where a portable app stores its configurations?

Hi, I got portable firefox 6 from this thread. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=664262#664262 How and where a portable app like this stores its configurations? I found it is just a single file that runs. 
Similar surprising thing is also here. http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=664267#664267 I am curious about it. Can you please give me some idea?
